Poker hand review

in #poker6 years ago (edited)

We are playing 2-5 NL, with fairly deep stacks. I have 1900ish chips and relevant players cover me.

Pre flop Action

There are a few limpers (1or two) and a button raise to 30.

I wake up in the small blind and make a very loose call to with T-7 of clubs. There is one more caller in middle position.

The players: The BB is an Asian guy that owns a restaurant. He has played well and won a lot so far. He speaks English very badly .

MP is a big black guy that I have never seen before. He is clearly a fish, that I took quite some pots off before. He has also shoved preflop $600 with QJ before against a different player. He is the reason why I call so loose.

Flop: 743cc

I flop gin and decide to check raise.

MP checks

BB bets 65

I raise to 190 and both players call.

Turn: K

the turn brings a K and I decide to continue my semi bluff

I bet 400.

MP folds

BB calls

River: 2c

The river brings my dreamcard. I tank for a bit contemplating the right betsize

I bet 650

What do you think about my line and bet sizing?

Sort:

Personally, I think the turn bet was off in size. I woulda gone bigger. I think very likely you're still ahead despite the turn being a K (unless someone has like KTc of course, in which case if you get raised you can fold). There's not much that can call that wouldn't beat you if it got there. A flush draw is likely a higher draw, so you'd want them out and to get value from your 7 and wanting to get fold equity from better draws. If you bet $190 on the fop with two callers, pot should be $700ish -- I'd probably go $500 or so and then that'll build the pot bigger on the river too (if you wanted that). You hit your money card on the river so woulda been a nice spot to make a big bet.

Agree my bets are too small. Thank you for your feedback!

Your image is off with your description. 2 Clubs is showing on the flop but you mention that it hit on the river. I will assume you mixed up the 3 clubs with the 2 clubs.

  • Your play was perfect IMO. You hit a monster flop and checked raise for max value and got a caller. I suppose if you wanted to get sneaky you could have checked the river to make it look like you were scared that you were beat.

What do you think about my line and bet sizing?

That is a very brilliant move. I think you have club flush. You may know BB has 3 kings or 2 pairs because he will not call you with 2 club in his hand (that means no pair in his hand after flop). It is more likely to be one pair of king and 7 pair in his hand because BB bets 65 and calls 190 after flop. He also calls 400 from you after Turn-K. At this time he may have 2 pairs or 3 Kings. This is your winning hand I think.

I think you should increase to 800. 800 after 400 is showing your agressive play style. It is hard to decide for him. He may not know what is in your hand. He may think you just double you bet and try to make him run away. He will not believe you and will call you.

Good luck. Please tell me what happen in your match.

I agree, i think my bet sizing in general is too small, but actually the river bet is important to make bigger.

I am not sure what to do if the the river does not improve my hand

Hmm its worth a risk into a flush as you have a pair in this hand the only high pair that can win is a kings or a double draw above 7, that said a flush to 10 might be a little low, not a bad hand though.

The one scene that really failed the rest of a great film for me. Instead of "beating" Le Chiffre straight-up or with some poker brilliancy, Bond merely gets lucky…and in the most absurd fashion of all: a family pot where each successive player has an increasingly higher monster hand up to nearly the least likely hand of all. Just absurd. I mean, I could win 250 mil in final position with those cards. Who cares? I'd have rather seen Bond do something like lure Le Chiffre into a shove in a three-way, Le Chiffre saying, "you know you can't beat me…you don't have it, Mr. Bond," and Bond folding, saying, "no, I don't…but the guy next to you does, and I can beat him straight-up." That kind of thing. Something subtle. Something poker. Something skillful.

Wow!!! i would like to learn to play!!

I remember when I played my first live tournament. I did not had much idea of poker and was more focused on how to handle the Chips ans who's turn it is, let alone any strategy. However - out of 77 Players, I still managed to get to the final table. Was I playing so good? No it was pure luck. Poker is a game of luck, not skill.

it may be gambling to you, that does not mean others cannot win. Poker is very clearly a skill game, how else can people consistently make money with it.

I agree that you need some luck, but there is a lot of skill involved in sussing out your opponents and bluffing with bet sizes.

play 1k tournaments and then take a look at your results. Shortterm anything can happen, poker success and skill is measured in a larger sampelsize

People who think like you is why poker is still profitable.

I don t like the small bet at the turn. I just go allin there. There is no reason to leave 480$ as you are pot-committed anyways if a bad card shows up on river and he decides to bet.

The turn bet is small 2/3 pot but all in would be a huge overbet.

Oh I m sorry at the picture it looks like you are betting 600 into a pot of 1470.

Can you put some gaming competitions or something for steem bounties? I guess that would be fun.
