PEACOCKS AND POLITICS
To escape the alarming political situation in South Africa....no, wait...To escape the constant alarming news alerts that feed through to my husband's cell phone, we took an impulsive trip into town.
Being farmers we usually only get to town once a week, or possibly every second week. So you can be sure an unplanned trip still comes with a very long list of errands. One of the stops was on the way in to speak to the tractor mechanic. He lives on the family farm of friends of ours, they are eighth generation farmers. Their peacocks have been here far more generations than that!
Peacocks dose on the tractors. Peacocks perch in the trees way above the roof tops. Peacocks saunter through the vineyards - it is the famous Cape wine route after all. These magnificent creatures range around the homesteads and have done so for years. They are really beautiful - until they open their mouths. I guess it is a lot like a politician. All fanfare but a lot of noise coming out of their mouths.
Of course the scary thing about the current crisis in South Africa is that the corrupt government is speaking only death over a large percentage of the population. They are stirring up a radical element who have only murderous intentions. This is evident by the increasing death of farmers through "land grabs".
It is sad to think that this could happen here. Farmers for eight generations. This means their forefathers were British and Dutch settlers. Knowing he callous intentions of the rabble the reality is that should they set they come here, not only will the people be killed by so also will these beautiful Peacocks.
Edmund Burke said, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing".
I know how the farmers feel. They have worked hard on their land and to lose it all because of stupid politics is brutal. I pray you will find solutions in your country before things get totaly out of hand.
Thank you @cecicastor. While some are leaving on the whole the Boer will die defending their family and land. They have an ancient motto "Volk en Vaderland" Which translates as meaning to give everything for your people and your homeland
I totally understand this sentiment. We are basically doing the same, digging in and staying put.

howdy @buckaroo, what are your 8 generation farmer friends thinking, have they thought of trying to sell out and leave? Lets pray that some kind of change can happen to prevent this from spreading.
They would never sell @janton. The Boer (Afrikaaner) on the whole is extremely patriotic. And they will die defending their family and land
they won't sell and they won't leave either? Even after seeing what's happening to the others? then I'd get an arsenal you wouldn't believe and explosives.
That is the intention of many.....

Indeed! It seems they are more murderous individuals than greedy. They say they want the land but so far they just kill and leave. Horrific
I can't even imagine a mindset like that. It is so far removed from my peaceful existence in the forest. So sorry it is effecting your country and lucky it is not to close to you yet. Take care and keep us updated.

They are fast and cute the way they run :) still, you managed to take the best shots possible, Everyone is a very good photographer here, the competition is very high even if photography is what you only know :D
Those peacocks are beautiful, but you are right the noise they make is kind of scary. Our neighbor had one and it would cry at the oddest hour, kind of a sorrowful wail. I do hope things settle down around you, 8 generations of farmers and their heritage erased, unbelievable @buckaroo. Be safe

I've wondered how you were doing during this crisis but didn't want to ask in case it might somehow trigger awareness of your position to someone. That's a little paranoid, I know...

Thank you @lturner. Not at all paranoid. It is the reality of the day. Nothing secret. Nothing hidden. Except, possibly the agenda of the wicked but we know that nothing is hidden from the Most High. I often wonder if the escalating problems (here and elsewhere) aren't part of the Scripture that "judgement begins with the House of Israel". Possibly He is allowing the sifting, refining and will soon restore all things
We can only hope! Though I have a theory that every generation has reason to think this simply so that those who really watch for the Return will have reason to be hopeful and watch and not sleep.
Wickedness is definitely at a very high point right now, though I'm not sure it's the highest it's ever been. After all, God destroyed the earth when Noah was the ONLY righteous man he found on it. I have great hope there is still more than one righteous man alive today.
Hope. That is what sustains us. Hope that no matter what He is Sovereign. Ultimately His Name will be glorified. May we never lose hope despite the darkeness of the day
