Do Walls Work?

in #politics5 years ago

You are free to have opinions, but facts are non-negotiable. If you wish to intelligently discuss immigration reform do NOT use obvious lies like "Walls do not work." Do you have wild animals running through your living room? No? Why? BECAUSE OF WALLS.

I do not hate Mexicans, Hondurans, immigrants or illegal aliens. I want human trafficking stopped and if people REALLY understood how pervasive that problem is at the southern border they would be packing bricks there on their own time.

Ever met a coyote? I did once. Sat and visited with her for a couple hours, she was a very nice white woman. I had no idea what she did for a living until much later, when she finally decided to get out of the business. COLD AS STONE, she had no problems with her lifestyle, she was making good money running CHILDREN across the border to SELL.

Sort:

Love it how JimAcosta owned himself. There is evidence when they take down people saying that barriers work. Truth is treason in the empire of lies.

He is like a caricature of himself... His own punch line and he still does not get the joke...

lol

Walls also keep things in.

Indeed! The point I am trying to make is we need to have SERIOUS discussions about borders and when the discussion opens with "Walls don't work" it makes me want to shove someone's head into a wall, see if it knocks any sense into them. Lemme see... yep, yep, my roof is STILL over my head. It is at least 40 degrees warmer on THIS side of the wall than that side, my walls still work... If we are to have an intelligent discussion, we have to stop talking in nonsense memes.

The construction of the Berlin Wall did stop the flood of refugees from East to West, and it did defuse the crisis over Berlin. (Though he was not happy about it, President Kennedy conceded that “a wall is a hell of a lot better than a war.”)

Claims about the ineffectiveness of a wall are silly. There are real issues that need addressed. Neither side is talking seriously about real immigration reform.

EXACTLY!! If you want to have an INTELLIGENT discussion, do not open with something as obviously stupid as "Walls don't work." Really? What is keeping the roof from smacking you on the head? LOL!

Amen, with the operating word being intelligent.

Unfortunately, I'm not hearing really workable solutions from either side of the aisle, but maybe they'll get their collective heads out of their asses long enough to put those degrees to some use, and work together for a change.

Not holding my breath.

Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold

The problem with this wall is the lives it will harm in the process.

There are loads of people on both sides of the border who have extended family and friends straddling the border, even more who cross the border for work and then go home to their families, and the wall if built will devastate these communities and human connections.

As for human trafficking, that's happening all over the States, where no wall is planned . . . Nashville has a big problem with it, as do most major cities, and a whole lot of smaller ones.

It must be stopped, but it is a global problem, and won't end with a wall.

And one of the things I keep thinking of is Ronald Reagan: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"

I was never a big fan of Reagan, but Marek is, having been born and raised in Communist Poland, and he indeed credits Reagan with helping to end the USSR's domination of Eastern Europe.

So, rather than following in Reagan's footsteps, we're going to follow in Stalin's?

Sorry, I just can't get onboard with that, especially with a president who will no doubt try to profit personally in the process.

If you knew what I knew about the human trafficking, you would be down there with your own bricks. I cannot give anyone else my life experience.

I am aware of the human trafficking, and of how widespread it is, and it is in no way limited to - or even most prevalent at - the Mexican border.

And it needs to be stopped, but a wall is among the least effective methods of doing so, which of course is why it's at the top of the list.

Trump is a builder, and he will profit, at all costs.

Are you aware that, by far, most illegals are not stopped at our borders, but at our airports? What good will a wall do when that isn't where most people are trying to cross???

And, having a president whose primary goal in office is to profit from his presidency, is unethical in the extreme.

Not that he's ever given a damn about ethics. His entire business history is about skirting, and breaking, all applicable laws.

The man is a sham. He has no substance, no ethics, and no morals. None.

And this doesn't even address the tribal issues along the border, such as this:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/at-us-mexico-border-a-tribal-nation-fights-wall-that-would-divide-them

Yes, this is a real problem, and I applaud your efforts to bring light to the issue. I wish more people did so.

But serial womanizer Trump isn't about to help. It isn't in his best interests to do so.

And Border Patrol has issues with following the law that are decades old.

Trump may be a builder but when has he ever been a builder of walls? It's just absurd speculation to say that a man whose in real estate development will profit off building a wall. Even if your assumption was true I'd rather much Trump take advantage of the rich off his hotels (and supposed wall building) then off my pocketbook fueling the pockets of the oil barons like the Bushes, it saves average Americans a lot of money not to mention the number of lives not being killed over oil.
Walls work in conjunction with other security measures, walls/fencing is the number one go to when people think of security, whether singularly or as a whole. Most people who think of safety will put of a fence, if that doesn't work they then go to more measures but it's rare most people go to the least thing first that will keep people form invading their property.
Near twenty six million people didn't get here flying on airplanes, it's even crazy to try and sell such a idea. A lot of them have violated there visa's and that's because the visa system in Mexico is corrupt, corrupt individuals sell the visa's for upwards of five hundred dollars, visa's have actually become looked at as a means of legal entry into the US without the hassles and expense of migrating legally or taking a long, dangerous journey over the border on foot.
Even if you took those three issues and divided them into a third each for blame, air, feet, visas, none of those can be pinned on the criminal element that gets thrown out and just crosses willy nilly back over, each of those problems have to be dealt with no matter how you want to slice it. Once we get the foot traffic under control then we go after the visa's holders and implement a system that makes sure they exit this country one way or another, that will stop the illegal sale of visa's for entry. Not the entire border will need fencing but fencing enhances the ability of border agents to do their jobs more effectively, will cut down on the number of agents needed to chase people down, those people, along with once we aren't needing so many people to operate overloaded detention centers can then be redirected to go after the visa problem.

EXACTLY! Human traffickers cannot climb a wall with a bound and gagged child. That is really all people SHOULD need to understand...
Walls do not fix everything, but they are an integral part of a comprehensive plan to get control of our border and therefore, our nation.

Trust me, We the People will get the shaft in the end. That's just how Trump operates.

That's just an assumption on your part based on a minute amount of bankruptcies out of hundreds of business investments. Those entities were struggling when he bought them, that's not unusual for a investor to invest in a failing entity to try to turn it around. In the business world you win some lose some, that's just the way it goes, at least he didn't do like a lot of others and flat out declare bankruptcy to wipe out debt so he could start anew, that happens a lot more then you think.

When it comes to people getting the short end of the stick that's pretty common from any politician.

@crescendoofpeace I know you are a gentle and thoughtful soul. Your reply is filled with media talking points. If you knew what I KNOW about human trafficking, you would do a 180 in one heartbeat. I pray that truth finds you soon.
