AIPAC influencing US Politics?

in #politics5 years ago

AIPAC is a lobby. It lobbies. It is a very powerful lobby, it throws a lot of money around. Historically, every credible presidential candidate makes going to AIPAC and kissing the IDF's ring part of their campaign. They have power and influence over their issue area like most other lobbies could never dream of.

The idea that even suggesting AIPAC succeeds at doing exactly what it exists to do is somehow bigoted is absurd. This is getting out of hand, even by our normal ludicrous standards of protecting the Israeli state from criticism.

The fact that Chelsea Clinton and the GOP are teaming up to scream at Ilhan Omar, not only for telling the truth about AIPAC but for crediting AIPAC with succeeding at its own publicly available mission statement is beyond ridiculous.

The amount of teeth-gnashing and hysterics from two nuclear superpowers over the mere existence of two Congresswomen willing to make the slightest peep against the occupation is fascinating.

Like so many things in our politics, the dumb, authoritarian reaction to the proposition is proof itself that the argument is overdue. If this is how the US and Israeli governments respond to even the slightest criticism of this pernicious "alliance" then by God I hope Reps Omar and Tlaib never stop picking at it.
