Removing "Dangerous" Content from the Internet, the Technocratic Fad

in #politics5 years ago (edited)

In recent years there has been a move to create "fact checking" "authorities". Facebook and YouTube are among the sites that sponsored their creation and utilized their "services". Among the "trusted" and "authoritative" websites were Wikipedia, Snopes and PolitiFact.

Source

We were told that these sites would determine what was or wasn't true, and we all needed to accept their conclusions. If a site was deemed untrustworthy, then we were to consider it as a source of "fake news" and not accept what that site was saying at the worst. In the least, the site was full of "media bias" and shouldn't be used as a "trusted" source for what is going on in the world.

Facebook and YouTube both started filtering data, hiding data and altering what people were allowed to see on their screens. No longer could we find information that was relevant to what we were looking for. No. Now the big tech companies were telling us what we were allowed to see, or what we were to trust or not trust.

This usually means that if a website or source of information is counter-establishment or saying something contrary to the established narrative, it is deemed to be "unfactual", "biased" or "fake news". The mainstream media is generally viewed as the "authoritative" source of news we can trust. YouTube even pushed mainstream media videos to the top of searches last year.

Recently, Facebook has banned what they describe as "dangerous" figures, like Milo Yiannopoulos, Alex Jones, and Louis Farrakhan. We aren't allowed to view their information on the site.

This is not the fist time political figures of opposing voices have been shunned from online tech giants. Alex Jones especially, who last year was banned from Facebook, YouTube, Apple and Spotify, if I'm not mistaken. Now anyone who posts a link to an Alex Jones website will be banned from Facebook, as happened to Paul Joseph Watson.

These purges are getting stronger, and will become wider reaching. The aim is to destroy alternative media. The personal bias of politically motivated individuals and company owners and employees is shaping the content of the internet. This is the future of the internet in it's current direction.

The paragons of censorship are embarking on a holy crusade to clean the internet and make it safe from all dissenting voices who contradict the mainstream narrative. This will ensure a homogeneous and unified worldview that is shaped by mainstream media, and remove the so-called "disinformation" that they don't want spreading around and changing people's minds from the programmed conditioning they are being fed.

We are indeed in a time of post-truth, as the media says. But not for people believing in falsities because they won't listen to the "facts" from the mainstream media. Rather, because the corporate media and big tech companies that are taking it upon themselves from silencing and removing whatever they essentially don't like.

This can be attempts to remove what they think is false but isn't, to outright removing things that they just don't want other people to learn about in order to keep their consciousness boxed into the unreality the mainstream media fabricates.

These are dangerous times indeed, because the media, politicians and big tech corps are trying and succeeding to wipe the internet and therefore our consciousness from having access to information in popular media marketplaces, like social media sites. Look at the bans and prison sentences they are imposing on videos of events. Be it the NZ shooting, or attempts to ban videos of 9/11 in order to squash looking into that event and figuring out things, for instance that WTC 7 was demolished on purpose.

The real danger is coming from these technocratic and politico-corporate controllers who want to restrict our access to reality.

Thank you for your time and attention. Peace.

I always thought of fact-checking sites as a place where the information was presented and I could draw my own conclusions. The trend toward 'censorship' on major platforms is concerning, though.

Thanks to @akdx, this post has been resteemed and featured in today's edition of The Daily Sneak.

Thank you for your efforts to create quality content!

You're welcome. Indeed, but those sites are often used to simply dismiss something as untrue because the site claims it's not true. They toe the mainstream narrative more than not.

There’s the situation that you speak of for sure but there’s also new possibilities to prevent it from being completely removed. When the history books full of propaganda were printed, people printed the truth under small or independent companies. Now we have the incredible blockchain to assist us.
There will always be people who take the programming and stay asleep, just as in the matrix movie. There will also always be people like you and I spreading truth, regardless of what people say. They are not going to keep up with innovation, we have the momentum because we are much more resourceful than they think.

Yeah, some go with the flow, and some go where the truth leads ;)
