Investigating the Origin of Trump-Russia Collusion

There's an interesting article on the Fox News website, CNN’s Don Lemon says Obama DOJ should not be investigated over Russia probe, indicating a CNN "reporter" named Don Lemon is suggesting there should be no investigation into the actions of individuals before the initiation of the Mueller investigation. If Don Lemon were actually a news reporter, he would want to get to the truth. It's been suggested the Mueller investigation was the result of known false accusations and abuse of the FISA warrant process being used to generate "cause" for an investigation into the Trump campaign and subsequently the Trump administration.

Supposedly this happened by "militarizing" the investigative resources of the government against Trump and his associates based on partisan politics. I suspect most of us have heard enough in the news to at least make us wonder, I know I certainly have. Everything from the Steele dossier being funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee to the highly partisan text between the DOJ/FBI lovers (Page and Strzok).

Don Lemon on the other hand believes there is no reason to develop and understanding of what really happened here. Lemon says

President Obama is not the president anymore. People in there are not in office anymore. We need to hold accountable the people who are in office.

Lemon is proposing we should ignore potentially the most corrupt behavior in the history of our country simply because they are no longer in office. Maybe this is journalism at CNN.

Let's boil this down to the basics. The assertion is the investigative resources of the United States Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were turned on a private citizen of the United States because he was wasn't liked. Yes, this private citizen is brash, arrogant, and at times obnoxious. He is also wealthy and happened to be running for and eventually became President of the United States. If Donald Trump can be made a target in this fashion, what's to stop any of us from being next? What would it take to become listed as an enemy of the State and be subjected to this type of investigation?

The FBI didn't trust this investigation to the standard field agents. It wasn't even entrusted to the most Senior field agents. This investigation was handled by a select few individuals at the very top of the FBI. We need to understand, first if there was corrupt behavior and secondly was this a few rogue individuals or was this coordinated at higher levels.

I suspect the attitude of Don Lemon will become common place in the mainstream media and the desire to ignore the past will be trumpeted over and over again. Luckily, it's potentially too late. Representative Devin Nunes (R-CA and the Ranking Member on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence) has already been investigating this matter. In the article, Devin Nunes ups the ante: Two dozen people could be hit by criminal referral, Rep. Nunes indicates there could be as many as two dozen criminal referrals for individuals working in the DOJ and FBI over the origins of the Trump-Russia investigations. These criminal referrals are expected to happen within the coming days or a couple of weeks. Some articles say days and some say as long as a few weeks.

Mueller investigated Trump-Russia collusion for almost three years and come up with nothing reaching the level of criminality. Mueller ran his investigation with the intent to prove Trump guilty, the Nunes investigation took at a different route and apparently has uncovered some real criminal activity. Time will tell and I believe this will be the more interesting story that unfolds.
