I've moved to Hive, along with most other people, following Justin Sun's takeover of Steem in the Spring of 2020. I believe hive is a lot more decentralised than Steem!

Exceptional. Thanks for sharing this. I rarely give a 100% upvote but definitely valuing this insight. I just read an article this morning on Facebook GlobalCoin and how it would basically mean corporations supplanting governments for issuance of currency. Definitely a dystopian development, unless the only vote you want is as a shareholder. Indeed, we have already reached a point where shareholder rights seem to trump citizens’ rights.

It's a thought provoking book, the final chapter which I won't have chance to read until a few days time is on crypto currency and the potential for it to undermine Corporations.

Facebook controlling a currency, that is a scary concept!

What I think is even scarier is that although most of these tech giants have many shareholders, they continue to be controlled by their founders as they ensured that they maintained control through the issuance of different classes of shares which provide less voting power which has centralized them even more in terms of power.

I didn't even know that - so it gives lie to their libertarian overtones for sure by the sounds of it!

Good post, just a tip :)
Try to less repeat for example "tech firm"

Also I dont really think it's people vs tech, but more people vs people..
They just need to learn that tech is a mean of way to either centralize or decentralize.. Tech is the tool.

But people dont even get that.. They fight left vs right (in germany - but everywhere is this illusional dualistic fight) instead of centralized vs decentralized.. But yea ofc. If they got the whole picture, decentralization would just win.

It's a mindgame.

Anyways, great infos 👍

Really great article. I have similar sentiment in my recent article called Reflections - Social Media Revolution. Why are we not receiving the full potential benefits of technology? Because the old world gods of the consumer empire wish to exert their outdated paradigm of control into the new paradigm of transparency.

It's a contradiction. It's so obvious to those that have eyes in their head that there is this big iron curtain of secrecy and we're all just meant to play along and give these tech giants our data in this new Social Revolution. But we're being sold short of the true benefits truly decentralized social media should give us.

To change the mediums into decentralized forms will change society. This power shift is what they're afraid of and what they're trying to avoid.

It's time we stood up.
