Cavern Almost As Big As Manhattan Discovered Under Antarctica Glacier

in #politics5 years ago

Scientists estimate the enormous cavity—1,000 feet high and 6 miles long—previously contained about 14 billion tons of ice, all of which disappeared within the last three years. It’s the latest bad sign for the Thwaites Glacier, which has recorded some of the most rapid melt rates out of anywhere in Antarctica.

My thoughts on this news

Climate change is happening before our eyes and every post I make about it with news updates, it is getting worse. Using satellite scanning technology scientists have discovered a huge melted empty space under a glacier in Antarctica. This section that melted is about 2/3 the size of Manhattan and it once contained 14 billion tons of ice. Glaciers are melting so fast now scientists are unable to predict how soon flooding is going to force people to start moving away from their seacoast homes. Last time the earth had as much CO2 in the atmosphere as it does today humans were not on earth yet and sea levels were 100 feet higher than they are today. At the rate the glaciers are melting we could see up to 10 feet of sea level rise by 2050...
