Dramatic changes for alpine ecosystems because of rising temperatures

in #politics6 years ago

Melting glaciers, rerouted rivers, shrinking lakes, shortened ski seasons, and more landslides are just a few of the symptoms listed in the report released by the Alpine Club of Canada in May. David Hik, a biology professor at the University of Alberta and one of the editors of the report, said Canadians should be concerned about altered alpine landscapes as signals of change for the world.

My thoughts on this news

This is an interesting report by biologists who study this area. They talk about the major changes that will occur and are already happening because of glacial melt in these mountains. As these glaciers melt they are seeing major changes to lakes and rivers in these areas. Depending on the rate of melt some lakes and rivers could vanish while new rivers will be created. The landscape can also change because of mudslides as the glacial melt increases. This could cause huge problems for some major cities because some of these rivers that are fed by these glaciers are what these cities use for their water. If the landscape changes and new rivers are created some cities may run out of water in the future...
