My thoughts on this news

Just like CO2, Methane is a greenhouse gas, the more of it is in earth's atmosphere the more heat from the sun will be trapped. Which obviously leads to global temperature rise over time. All the Trump administration cares about is corporations and their rich owners, so they are allowing them to pollute the planet as much as they want. This saves corporations lots of money, because they do not have to worry about implementing measures to keep methane from leaking out into the atmosphere. So the rich get richer while everyone has to deal with the destruction of the environment.
