Toxic Waste Disaster in Pasir Gudang
A very disastrous toxic waste outbreak due to some irresponsible factory owners dumping their waste into the river named Sungai Kim Kim in Pasir Gudang. This had caused hundreds of students and residents affected by intoxication. Not only the waste had polluted the whole river but the waste had evaporated and fumed the air with toxic as well, causing difficulty in breathing. My colleague who lived in that area also now having rashes on skin and difficulty in breathing during the night. My Johor office is just proximate away from the pollution point. Furthermore, I get news from my Singapore friends that they are suffering as well as the district is just facing directly to Punggol, Singapore.
As a practicing professional, I am well aware that this should not happen in the first place as each stage of approval especially handling such highly toxic and polluting industry will have high requirement for them to carry out business locally. There will be requirement to get Environment Impact Assessment in the first place, following up with measure on how the toxic waste will be treated. Any in-compliance will result to rejection of factory establishment.
In overall, things will get stricter after this event and consultant and business owner will need to be more cautious on handling waste management.
