Meet A Batak Karo Tribe Woman Dressmaker-Sumatra Series

In the village of Beringin, Sinembah Tanjung Muda Hilir, during my research there, I met a woman from Batak Karo tribe, Mak Vera Boru Tarigan. She is a diligent dressmaker for woman. That night I met her for the second time as i stayed very near next to his house. She was sewn to support her family. Almost every day there are people who come asking her to make a handmade clothes. Every day she sews using the 'tudung' a traditional headscarf made of Ulos, from Batak Karo tribe. She said almost all women from Karo family like to wear it in their daily activities, to protect their heads from the heat of the sun when going to the fields, when growing vegetables, going to the paddy fields, feed livestocks, and also to protect the head from the cold of the wind and rain. Mak Vera said, she cannot do the activities including sewing without her tudung, its like something lose or feel weird on her head. So, wearing tudung is part of Karo Woman tribe's clothes.
