The one in a million "Kalkies" - Cape Town, South Africa

"kalkies" - AKA - Kalk Bay is one of those suburbs that holds a great gravitation for me... so we tend to head out that way every few weeks for a lunch at the Brass Bell or one of their other unique eateries... Kalk Bay is a character filled fishing village on the False Bay Coast. It is about a 10 minute drive from where we stay. Is one of those places, that despite it's history - it just never gets old... It is such an enormously enigmatic little suburb, you could literally lose yourself for hours, simply exploring... No matter where you look, there is an array of colour and all sorts of goodies to discover...

Approaching the restaurant you have to go through the subway underneath the railway and are ALWAYS greeted by a different busker. The artist we encountered was quite talented I must say - and definitely not lacking any enthusiasm! hehe "The Brass Bell" has been there since "pa fell off a donkey" and is pretty much a household name for most Capetonians! Enroute to Kalk Bay you pass its neighbouring suburb - Muizenberg, which is essentially "surfer central".

The beach there has the perfect waves for beginners, so is naturally where all the surf schools and shops are. The Brass Bell has several sections to it - one of which is "The Beach at the Bell" It is a great place for a social family afternoon, because moms and dads can relax while the kids muck about on the "beach"... building sandcastles and dipping their toes in the water. The outside section of the restaurant is situated LITERALLY right next to the ocean... which gives you an outdoor experience, like no other!

The restaurant tables are scattered around the tidal pools - which on sunny afternoons, often offer welcoming "cool off sprays" from King Neptune himself. It is truly wonderful to be able to relax so close to mother nature... There is a walkway that runs "through" the restaurant which is referred to as the "cat walk" - it stretches right from Muizenberg and goes on long beyond Kalk Bay. The tide was a little high as you can see... so we decided to give the cat walk a skip. lol

ok... wine time!!! (yes, yes, those that know me well, will know that this is my favourite time. haha) and the order of the day was a delightfully refreshing bottle of Durbanville Hills Rosè. To munch for me, it was a platter for one - which was... as you can see... WAYYYYY too much for one person! lol - but sharing is caring, so nothing went to waste :)

Time for a trip to the ladies... which is a "mini tour" in itself, showing off some world famous photos of our Cape Storms which needless to say are RATHER dramatic in Kalk Bay...

here are a few original photos from the "The Cape of Storms" as experienced in Kalk Bay - a little bit of perspective. lol When you look at pics like that, you would never say that you would be able to dine like this just 500 metres away... hehe! Thankfully, we experienced nothing more than a few tiny sprays. It was a wonderful afternoon - one which will definitely be repeated again in the near future... well... maybe not to the Brass Bell as we are now heading into the thick of Winter and today it is pouring buckets! But Kalk Bay also has plenty of really cosy and inviting Winter appropriate restaurants too... so perhaps we will explore those - although, having said that - Cape Town has some gloriously sunny Winter days too... so who knows ;)

WHO ARE THE

Power House Creatives _night mode.png

The Power House Creatives is a discord community of individuals who are committed to producing content which adds value across multiple platforms. We are STRONGLY focused on supporting our fellow members individual growth as well as offering support to those that are still trying to get ahead. We are a CLOSE KNIT community of individuals, each with our own strengths, passions and input, yet ALL willing to go the extra mile for our family members... WHY? - because, simply put - we CARE about one another and MANY HANDS make light work! - THAT is what FAMILY is about! - To infinity and beyond...

text15.png

INTERESTED IN JOINING THE PHC FAMILY?

As most of you already know our community is closed. This does not mean that we are trying to keep people out or that we ignore those who aren’t members – it simply means that we are focused on keeping our standards of content high and our member commitment higher. I think if nothing else, we have proven those two qualities to the Steemisphere over the last year and even more so in the last seven days.

I am not going to sugar-coat things for anybody, because it would not make any sense whatsoever, nor would it serve anybody fruitfully - long-term. Our community is incredibly proactive - and DRIVING the success and growth of the people within it is our FUNDAMENTAL PURPOSE, because this is how they are able to do the same in return for other individuals in communities beyond our own! Our reach extends WAY beyond our own walls and this is one of the primary reasons why it is important to ALL OF US that each of our members are able to hold our flag high wherever they may roam.

We work hard, we play hard - we support one another through thick and thin, we know whats going on in our "3D" lives and no matter what it is - we are there for each other! Yes, there are daily responsibilities and obligations. Yes, there are things that fly within our walls and things that definitely don’t. Yes, we require quite a bit from you as an individual but you get it tenfold in return and ANY ONE of our members will gladly testify to this. Absolutely EVERYTHING is catered for and considered… including those times when you will NOT be able to fulfill your obligations. It simply requires the following of our procedures, which once you have grasped – are not complicated at all - I promise.

Everybody in our community jokes about my “boot” because they know that there are certain things that never were and never will be tolerated within our walls… and when they surface, those people will very quickly meet my infamous “boot” sending them out the door – or at least showing them that it is open. A few such things would be the likes of: not doing what you promised to do when joining, not being a team player, plagiarism, spamming, causing trouble with other members etc. These are all no-brainers really, so should not be much of a shock or challenge to anyone who is actually on Steemit (or any other platform) to make it a better place for everyone!

We may be a relatively small collective, but we have approx. 118 members from over 30 countries and that continues to grow. Most of our members are also key players in some of Steemits other highly regarded and supportive discord communities and initiatives - and all of us at “home” know without question or doubt that every single one of our members will make us proud with whatever they do – wherever they go – and that is precisely how we intend to keep it. Simple as that! No, this kind of “ethos” does not work for everyone – and that is perfectly fine - Each to their own. The people who have done the “putting in” are the ones that understand what they “get out” of it all ;)

So, if I have not scared you away yet, or if the above info excites you (even better) and you would still like to put in an application to join our fantabulous and VERY crazy little family… then by all means – hop into our applications server and do the necessary.

YEAH BABY YEAH - I WANT TO APPLY

Very cool place! And here (in Russia) comes the summer. What is the weather like in winter?

Yes it is a great place! Winters here are just cold and wet. No snow, only on the mountain tops.

When I think how far away is this wonderful place. I like the neighborhood with the old air. I love the blue that can be seen everywhere.
I like a lot of rusty iron tables and chairs.
The resturant has an excellent position near the ocean and I am convinced that it has been wonderful there.

Thank you for the lovely comment @bluemoon :) and yes, it is a stunning place which is why we go there so often haha :) Perhaps one day you can go there too ;)

With all the pleasure! Thanks for suggestion, but I'm pretty old and scared of so much distance.
It's really a place to go often, especially because it's so close to your home.
