A little bit of Wild

If you are lucky enough to have a fair size garden, you are indeed fortunate.
I am not one of those people, but if I had a large garden, I would select an area and turn it into a wild garden.
The reason for this is because so many of wild flowers are being lost and this is very sad as they are so important to all the beneficial insect that we need in our gardens.

There are wild flowers that be sown as seeds and some that have bulbs that can be planted.
It is wonderful if you can have some that come up in certain seasons so that there will be flowers all year round.

When it comes to planting bulbs, dont be too neat and tidy -in other words, no straight lines - nature does not grow things in lines.
The same applies with seeds - just scatter them and as they grow, they will eventually flower and go to seed and then the seeds will drop or be blown to different areas by the wind, so that next season will produced more and more flowers.

Once a wild garden becomes established, it becomes something beautiful to behold.
The garden will be alive with beneficial insects year round and these will be a great asset for the remainder of the garden - especially if you are growing food crops.

Wild gardens are also wonderful for children to visit and see all the insects so that they can learn about them.
A small pond can also be built and a wetland created for frogs, plants and birds that enjoy these areas.

I like the way you think. Hopefully, we will have more!

Thank you - and yes let us hope so.

What are those flowers? The foliage is cool!

They are some of our Cape indigenous wild flowers.
