Beautiful but Dangerous.

The Oleander is a very beautiful evergreen shrub that can be seen in many coastal gardens as it is a hardy, drought resistant shrub and can handle wind.

The flowers are lovely - pinks, salmon, red and white and make a real statement when in full bloom during spring and throughout summer.
Oleanders are not fussy about soil and can be seen growing in poor sandy soils quite happily.

However, despite the fact that this shrub is beautiful, it is extremely poisonous - the leaves, stems and branches and flowers.
Should you have one in the garden, make sure small children do not touch or pick off any parts of the plant.
Any pruning should be done with care and gloves worn and cuttings should not be put on to the compost heap.

Thanks for the reminder. I never think of something like flowers being poisonous.
