Hungarian Caraway Bread

Hi Friends :D

TGIF, right? :D I always love it when it's Friday because that means tomorrow everyone I love is home :D

I spent the better part of my morning teaching 2 of my neighbors how to Steemit! Finally they were able to join, after waiting for months, and/or incorrect password over and over. Can you believe they had to purchase new phone numbers just so they could try again haha So yeah, finally after I walked them through, they have their accounts now, yay.

I appreciate it, you guys, you are just awesome! <3 It reminds me my very own first day here, my gosh, Nita, you are so lucky, needless to say haha

Anyhoo.... I have a loaf of bread to share today. Great as is or to be toasted. Normally in Hungary it is not shaped as a loaf, but rather as a round bread though.

Just look at the texture. Beautiful! And the secret ingredient to this caraway bread is....POTATO!

Here is the recipe should you like to give it a try :D

  • 1 envelope active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 c lukewarm water
  • 4 1/2 c flour
  • 1 tbsp.salt
  • 1 tsp caraway seed
  • 1/2 c mashed potato

  • In a large bowl dissolve the yeast in 3/4 cup of the water.
  • Add in 3 tbsp flour. Cover and let rise for 30 mins.
  • Stir in remaining 3/4 cup water, salt, caraway seed. Gradually add mashed potato and flour. Knead about 10 minutes.
  • Place in a well greased bowl and let rise until doubled in size (1 1/2 hours)
  • Punch down dough, then knead for 4 mins. Place dough into a loaf pan.
  • Flatten to fit and let rise again until doubled in size (30 mins)
  • Brush top with water and cut 1/4 inch deep cross
  • Bake on preheated 375 F for 1 H and 15 mins
  • Cool on rack!

yes. they went mad replying comments tho, so now, they dont have RC. i did delegate to them, but one still went for commenting frenzy lol she has to wait for another 3 days until she can do anything :)

That is so frustrating for people when they start trying to manage there RC, I think that may be a bad thing as some will give up and leave the platform

You've made me miss the taste of bread again, time to buy some when I visit the supermarket later on... pretty sure they won't taste as good as homemade ones but whatever hehe.

Make sure your neighbors didn't forget to write down their passwords somewhere! Steem really needs a more "human" password system for non-technical peeps, lol.

Oh, is the flour in the ingredients we can use all purpose flour? I might wanna give it a try... hehehe

ooooh this bread is good toasted and smeared with spreads (margarine, butter), so good for sure!

this one does use all purpose flour. most of them time when i bake bread, i use all purpose flour rather than bread flour. works just fine :)
