In less than 24 hours the anticipation will be over as the first-ever StemNG meetup will be held in Lagos, Nigeria. Being part of the planning team, the build-up to the event has been quite intriguing, and very exciting. Other members of the planning team include @real2Josh, @funmiakinpelu, and @amazonaesh; of course under the supervision of the StemNG management (@gentleshaid and @greenrun).

We’ve had sessions on how the event will progress smoothly without any hiccups, and so far, everything seemed set for tomorrow.

My tasks so far have been to design the event digital banner, draft the event programme schedule, which is sort of a flowchart on how the event progress; and creation of the registration form. The whole team has equally worked and contributed to all the ideas on the plans of the meetup so far, and the management team have been fully involved with the planning.

I must say, it is really a privilege to be working with this smart and dedicated folks. So far I have met with two members of the stemNG community (@real2Josh and @amazonaesh) who are part of the planning team, and it felt surreal meeting in person. We had a task of checking out the venue we intended to use for the event, more on that will come later.

About the Meetup

The maiden edition of the StemNG meetup is set to hold on July 11th, 2018 at the Lekki Conservation Center, Victoria Island Lagos, Nigeria, the event is slated to start by 11:00 am. The location of the event sets the tune for the meetup, participants will be taken on a tour around the natural resources conservation. Participants will get to tour around the 78-hectare location that consists of Savannah and swamp habitats.

After the tour, all the participants will converge at a central point where we will interact and series of chat, taking the SteemStem engagement one step further - offline. Anticipated guests include @gentleshaid @greenrun and @zest and the host of the members of the community, there will also be newbies that hope to become part of the community. Just to retort, it will be an event with a lot of selfie-taking, monkey invading, and tortoise staring atmosphere, with a high possibility of seeing a snake or an alligator photobombing one of your selfies. But you will be completely safe, as you will be in the safe hands of the tour guide, and not to worry, the animals are usually in their best behaviour.

Who is Invited

I believe everyone is invited as long you have an open mind and appreciate the role science plays in the world we will in today, in the StemNG Discord Channel we usually have engaging conversations that centers around the current events happening around the country, and the role we as scientist have to play, both in the lives of family and friends, and also in the lives of the average person. So, it is my believe we will have such conversation as to how to create a spark in the heart of participants that will make them want to do better for themselves and the community as well.
