May 11, 2018: Steemph UAE Meet & Greet (Dubai Leg). Warmth Across the Desert

in #promo-steem6 years ago

If there's a will, there's a way...

We had this in mind since the first ever Steemit UAE Meet and Greet Event last January. Since most of us were from Abu Dhabi, it was just reasonable to hold the meet up here but we felt that something was missing -- how about our peers in Dubai and other Emirates?!

We kept that in mind. Hence, when we planned for the second meet and greet, we did not fail to include Dubai peeps in our thoughts (and actions of course)...

May 11, 2018 -- It finally happened!

Just two weeks after the second Steemit meet-up in Abu Dhabi, the day we meet our Dubai members and peers finally came!

The event was set to start at 1:00pm, so we started to drive from Abu Dhabi from 11:00 am. With me were my loving family, @kennyroy and the @divinekids. Another car came from Abu Dhabi - @appleskie, @pingcess, @prinsepong, @essan-san and Tina on board.

We agreed to meet at the last gas station near the border of Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Armed with waze, the other car tailed me and based on the ETA I was confident we'd reach 10 minutes before the agreed time.

But 'twas Dubai!

Miss a turn or an exit and you'll end up drifting aimlessly. I had to stop for a while and re-check the map. We reached the venue 15 minutes later, @kendallron, @cheche016, hub and wifey @mr-neil and @sherylneil, and @iamdeth were already there waiting for us. After a few hi's and hello's, we proceeded inside the restaurant where a sumptuous buffet of Filipino food was waiting!

After some time, @lhynn and hubby @donaldd came then @iluyyy and hubby Peter and their cutie son Elijah.

Our reservation, thanks to @iamdeth, @paluchie, and @lhynn, also included the use of their meeting room for 30 minutes. We had to wait for some time until the meeting room was available at 3.30pm so we started with our discussions at the buffet section itself.

Steemph.UAE Updates

I had the chance to update the group about what's been happening in the background and the upcoming projects we wish to launch in the near future:

  • Steemph.UAE daily curation efforts and rules. Some changes were recently introduced which you can revisit here. The group was also reminded of the basic rules and the importance of quality content since we have the support of @steemph.trail to boost the rewards of the featured posts.

  • We aim to register @steemph.UAE as an accredited group under the auspices of the Philippine Embassy of the United Arab Emirates through the Bayanihan Council. Hence, we aim to run charity programs for our distressed fellow OFW's (Overseas Filipino Workers) currently detained at the POLO-OWWA.

  • We aim to be more visible and recognized not just an online community, but a group of dedicated Pinoys. This coming June, we will be joining the bloodletting campaign spearheaded by the APO brotherhood, this time as donors first. Hopefully next time, with proper planning and coordination, we can also sponsor such activity.

With the support of the @steemph.UAE family, we know that these goals are very attainable. It is just a matter of cooperation and time too.

Part 2. More discussions at the meeting room.

After a few minutes we went up to the meeting room, where we continued our discussions. We were able to give a brief intro about steemit and how it works to a some of our guests who have not yet signed up - Crissy, Tina and Peter.

We also touched upon our steemit wallet and keys, and the importance of keeping them secured. We don't want to lose our hard-earned steem, no!

As we keep on reiterating, to grow on this platform, we need to interact with our fellow steemians. As a social media, steemit is not your regular blogging site where you just come and put your blog, go and come back next time to put up the next one. We need to join communities which can support and help us grow and become on the platform.

Another important point we discussed was about posting original and quality content - plagiarism is a big NO. Never fail to cite sources and references.

@kendallron also shared the new community they have started with fellow Curie curators, which also aim to support Filipino content creators - @bestofPH. To find out their curation guidelines, check out their post here.

It was a fulfilling day.

You do not notice the time passing by when you are enjoying. It was almost 5.00pm or so when we finished. But hey, a gathering like this just don't finish like that.

PICTURE TIME!

With my fellow #thealliance, @mr-neil.

L-R: @pingcess, @iluyyy @appleskie, Peter, Crissy, myself and @essan-san. I spent many years with them in my previous company. I love this bunch! <3
