If you think you are living a hard-nut life, then you haven't been to Makoko, a floating slum on the surface of the Lagoon in the city of Lagos called "Osa", the world's largest floating slum is located in Lagos State Nigeria West Africa.

Exactly a week ago, the Steem-lagos team embarked on a life adventure trip into thsi slum to touch their lives and know more of what they needed and how Steem could be used to make a great difference with the distruptive Nature of the Blockchain Technology.

Life outside Technology and the Blockchain is a goric one, and living in these Water Worldis something you won't get to see everyday in life especially to those of us that have been there to carry out a Steem Cooperate Social Responsibilities. Like other offline gigs of the @steem-lagos crew, this is aimed at making you steemians thankful and be appreciative of the little the Steem Blockchain has given unto you, the other side of life could be callous, living below the poverty line is far much worse than any disaster on the planet!

A TRIP TO THE FLOATING SCHOOL

Makoko has a population ofover 300,000 inhabitants been threatened by Nature and the Government of the state. The reason is that, the floating slum is glaring visible from Third Mainland Bridge, the most Busiest Bridge in West Africa that links Lagos mainland to the Island. This is an unavoidable scene for foreign investors and the elite that plies this bridge daily, this in turn seems like an embarassment to the State Government and had plans to demolish the Floating community.

Now in Makoko, there is a floating school "completely floating" built on woods and buoys specially design was developed by the NLÉ team, the local community building expert with international collaborators on specific technologies used, sadly; the school collapsed and the @steem-lagos crew had to visit them to see ways we could be of help to this floating community.

We donated life jackets to the sister school which now accomdates over 240 students(plus the students from the collapsed floating school). Rainy season is here and the safety of these pupils remains a priority to steemit and @steem-lagos team. After getting the list of ways we could help them out, we left in a hurry as there seems to be an impending heavy Rainfall.

Before leaving, we ensured performing a safety drill with the students on how to safely and fastly kit up with the lifejackets in extereme weather conditions.

Even though all our cash were taken from us by the slum thugs, we were granted save passage and we are extremely thankful there was no casualities. On our next trip, we hope to be able to help the surviving school with educational materials and more life jackets to the whole school both teachers and students.

Thank you so much for this extra-ordinary and inspirational story. The best example ever of action and actualization vs words and thoughts. Doesn't get better. So much more to do, appreciate the hope. Peace and goodwill.

Bless you dear friend.

I salute your work @steem-lagos if there is a way to ask the government for a relocation of the families that are living there, both will benefit from that project. Simply just kicking them away is not a solution, ask this family will have no place to go. Living on a river is a dangerous thing that every time it rains, the chances of being overrun by water is high.

You got it right dear friend, the reason we had to donate Lifejackets to the pupils.

Hello! I find your post valuable for the wafrica community! Thanks for the great post! @wafrica is now following you! ALWAYs follow @wafrica and use the wafrica tag!

I am really proud of this commendable works. Well done guys. I know Makoko quite well and I can attest that life is hellish there. It is my hope that poverty is one day reduced drastically there.

We hope the Blockchain helps ease things a bit, many thanks @gandhibaba

Nice one guys. Seeing where people are suffering and going out there to meet there need is a great thing to do. I salute your courage and the passion you have to those who are poor too.

Thanks for the Encouraging words dear friend.

Thank you for telling us this story and good to see that Steem can have a very positive impact in such remote areas of the world. Keep up your positive work!!!

Thanks for the Encouraging words @masterthematrix

Thanks so much for this inside look at what many people endure in life.

Many years ago I saw the documentary "Welcome to Lagos" and I believe that it featured that floating city.

A little Steem can go a long way for many people in this world. God bless your for doing what you can.

So sorry about the thugs, you didn't deserve that but you endured it in typical Nigerian style, with positivity and style!

Bless you sire, the thugs finally became our security; they gave us two guys to go and come back with us as security. Many thanks for the encouragement sir.
