My Promo-Mentors Writing Challenge: Taking Financial Freedom to the Highest Level (Changing the Educational System of the Philippines)

Dreams won’t work unless you do.

This is a famous line of John C. Maxwell, who is a famous author and speaker which primarily focusing on Leadership. I actually have read this line when I was still in college because this was printed in our organization’s t-shirt. This line connotes deeper sense.

Then why am I talking about this? I was just thinking that this could be a good start in my entry for @promo-mentor’s challenge. You may click this link to know the details about the challenge, (here). As a glimpse, they are asking us to express the things that we will be doing if we have the what we call, “Financial Freedom”.

Financial Freedom is the way in dealing life and making decisions without considering your finances or should I say the lack of it. Maybe in personal perspectives, we would have the same reactions and deeds if we can achieve financial freedom.

In a span of a second, I bet you will be thinking about your personal life: family plans, houses, cars, education, career, travels, health benefits, and savings. Honestly, we have the same thinking.

I want to make my parents happy as what you have been thinking. I know they are already tired of working as laundry woman and motor bike driver. Imagining the years that they have been working up until now. We don’t have a house and we know that the real owner will get this one sooner. I want to travel the whole Philippines and the whole world to see the beautiful creations of the Almighty. I want to have health benefits or might as well say, unlimited health benefits. Most importantly, I love to really have savings.

If you made it here, I bet you have guess how financially poor I am. I also want financial freedom, like I wanted to do the things without worrying my finances. That’s why I’ve been into many risks and network marketing companies thinking it will really help me.

But, I failed!

I’ve been telling myself that maybe I am not designed for business department but they were saying that only business can give me the financial freedom. So, does it mean I don’t have the capacity to be financially free?

Well, so much on that.

Actually on top of those dreams that I have mentioned above is my plan to change the whole educational curriculum in the Philippines. Does it really need to have lots of money? Yes, there is a need of lots of money. I’ll show to you 5 videos that may somehow help me in making this into fruition.

These videos are not mine by the way; it is originally owned by GMA Network Company.

This is happening in some place of Western Samar, Philippines where students pass/transport by the sea just to get to their school. See how this young boy paddles his way in the report of Jiggy Manicad. The report said that it was his 3rd time around (including the incident during the coverage) that he experienced an upturn of his boat.

I realized how lucky I am when I was still studying because of the presence of the available commodities here in our city. There are also schools which is just meters away from our house that somehow made us fortunate enough.

If you’re triggered with the situation above, let me hear your side with this one...

I actually don’t know how to describe the way how they commute from their house to their school. Seems like they were trekking at the mountain’s gorge and playing with the raging waves of the ocean just to get to their school. They can sometimes have the chances of riding on a motor boat (not intended for hire/transporting them) but they need to pay 20 (PHp) or 0.4 (USD).

Commuting here in the city will only take me some amount of 30 (PHp) or 0.6 (USD) and some sweats in my system but these students remind me how lucky I was being comfortable in the seats of those vehicles I was using.

Let’s take our journey into some roller coaster-like ride in going to school.

A documentary of “Brigada” show which takes me into a roller coaster ride. This story of two siblings who need to travel using a lifebuoy for them to cross a raging river has really moved me and will let me realized that traffic congestion in the city can never equate the stress of commuting like this.

I got to imagine myself how can I persevere if I was put by God in that situation. I really adore the braveness of this young child!

How about these students who are commuting using two pieces of cable wires in the air.

These mode of transporting do really enhanced their skills in balancing. They are of no professional circus acrobats but they need to step up and pretend to be one. This way of transporting maybe some fun to students especially to those who are playful but to my eyes, it’s really an avenue for heart breaking accidents.

Holding the cable wires with bare hands and sliding feet slowly to reach the end of the “wire-bridge” is really exceptional than that cramming that I have been doing, like studying in a jeepney just to pass my exam. Their discipline and determination really moved me to the highest level!

Though there are still documentaries that I have seen already which were broadcasted by the said T.V. station, I just chose 4 of them here.

Those videos are just showing the processes of how students of some parts in the Philippines have been doing a life-death transportation just to go to school everyday.

In some schools especially in government schools, students were deprived of excellent and sufficient school facilities, equipments, laboratories and even textbooks.

My Plan

I dream of a Philippines that has an excellent Educational System. That these students will not sacrifice their own life just to get to school. I dream of having accessible schools in those remote areas with excellent facilities and resources.

Philippines alone is rich in culture and resources but I don’t see an appropriate utilization of those resources.

If given a chance that I can achieve financial freedom, I will do the following things:

1.) Study abroad and visit excellent schools

Dreaming doesn’t have payment but realizing all of those dreams will now need much of money. I want to study first abroad and learn how they have established their excellent education. After studying, I want to immerse myself in the system for me to really absorb the whole process.

This may take me many years but I know after those years is a better version of my self that may really be helpful for my vision.

2.) Talk to the Government and NGOs

I am not a superhuman or a magician that can do all of those things. I want to collaborate with Government Agencies and Non-government Organizations to realized my vision.

I will follow the processes set by the authorities and will ask for their help. The vision, idea, and finances will be mine and the support will come from them.

3.) Sit down meeting with Best Education Consultants

I know that there are many best consultants in education here in the Philippines but they don’t have that opportunity in realizing ambitious plans for the whole system. Well, I guess I do have the right to be ambitious this time.

I want to sit down with them and change the whole curriculum of our Education especially in the Basic Education Department.

I don’t want a curriculum that only focusing on the academics of our young students. I want to have a separate hours for life skills and values formation, even bigger hours for those dimensions. I also want to include the way of teaching them on how to nurture their cities and provinces with the touch of nature preservation.

I don’t want to see fellows going abroad just to earn a living. I want to see fellows who will be contented with the resources, culture, and benefits that our country has to offer.

We just lack the idea of proper nourishement and proper cultivation of our culture and resources. We lack the education on how to use all of those in bringing our country to a higher level.

I want change! I am an agent of it!

While typing all of those, I was holding my breath. It is really my usual thing when I do write articles like this.

When I talk about dreams and my plans for the Philippine Educational System, it really made me serious. It fired me up and it really excites my brain cells!

I guess, I have gone so far with this exceptional dream. I hope in God’s time I can be able to do all of those.

Thank you for staying with me and reading this blog written with a heart!

Lovelots,

I remember Venus Raj answered a question on a beauty pageant,
non verbatim
" if we want a month of progress we should plant trees, if we want a year of progress we should plant crops but if we want to have unending progress, we should educate people"

And I still believe with Dr Jose Rizal, Youths are still the hope of the country.

Still Education drives success.

True @joco0820... true, education still drives success... I like that answer of Venus Raj 😊 I never knew about the one before hehehe... thanks for sharing.

Dear Morken,
Damn those videos were gut wrenching!
I feel yours sentiments in terms of improving our educational system here in the Philippines.
Your vision for education is is worth fighting for.

Yeah inday, it really moved me. I’ve been seeing a lot of those videos in that station. Some sort of a motivation and inspiration. It always push me to pursue and persevere.

Yes, I am really ambitious in changing the educational system of the Philippines. That’s my great advocacy actually and I hope I can do it.

I dream of a Philippines that has an excellent Educational System. That these students will not sacrifice their own life just to get to school.

ghaaad such a selfless and humble person you are <3 I was moved by those stories gyud, ang uban kay nakita napud nako sa GMA documentaries but they never failed to break our hearts all the time. Swerte kaayo ta maski galisod ta financially, wa ta kaagi ug buhis-buhay experiences pra maka abots skwelahan. And swerte kaayo ang Pinas to have someone like you. You're very specific with the things you want to change about our education system, and I believe, someday, this will give you the ticket to achieve such.

Thanks for the compliment Shei... I hope that this will not just become a mere dream. With the kind of political issues that we have and the corrupt officials who are still alive, I bet lisud jhud siya 😭 we’ve spent enormous budget for education alone but I haven’t seen enormous improvements. Haaayyy...

Anyway, thanks for dropping by Shei... I love the way you motivate me.

Your blog is very timely. We share the same thoughts about wanting to improve the educational system of the Philippines. A while ago, I watched a YouTube video entitled "Why Finland has the best education system in the world?". This video might not be entirely related to your blog, but for me it was an eye opener for us to change our current education system. Excellent post 👍.

Thank you for your kind words @lhiealien... true our educational system must be changed.

I thank you for sharing the title of the video which talks about the educational system of Finland. I will try to look unto it in youtube. Thanks for this.

Thanks for dropping by, Lovelots!

@morken , there's no other words to say your "DAEBAK " which mean your awesome 🙌👍

Wow!!! Thank you @jickirti! All of us actually are awesome in our own way!

nice dream, morken! Thanks for your entry!

Yay!!! Thanks for your compliment @evecab! You’re welcome. I hope to join to more of this contest...

@morken Kabayan, I feel you and it is sad to think how money is becoming a hindrance from reaching a very good intention. The best thing we can do for now is to make an awareness through the power of the internet. Let's hang on, our country is doing okay, there's a lot of developments going on, we are lucky because I feel that we are going to witness our country becoming great again. I wish the majority of us will pay attention to this matter instead of wasting their time finding more things to gossip around. Our country needs more like you, We may not have much money at the moment but we do have a voice. Keep it up Kabayan and keep in touch, I just genuinely followed you, you are a valuable member of our society and I wish I do have heavier upvote power but please take my appreciation, I really hope you will win the contest. God bless us all.

Seeing improvements is already great... however, right now the Education Department is not the priotity of the government, have you heard that news or that statement @gavinci13? That was articulated during the Police Department’s salart increase.

Yey! Thank you for your kind words, it really melts my heart right now! I’m in love with your good words... thank you for being so kind in dropping by and in sharing your thoughts.

If I won’t win, unless I have shared awareness!

Lovelots,

@morken

Building infrastructures to easily connect majors cities to suburb towns will give easier access to major facilities including schools. In my own opinion, our government is doing what's right. Again this is just my own opinion, I may be wrong but we just couldn't do everything in just one snap. You can feel free to argue with my statement my friend @morken hehe.

You are welcome. I really think you have a value! where are you in the Philippines?

I agree with all your points.

Building infrastructures to easily connect cities and suburbs towns will give easier access to major facilities including schools.

This is a great idea I think and I have seen initiatives about this. However, we can’t deny the fact that there are places who are still suffering like the videos shown above.

the government is doing what’s right

If this is in terms of education, I respect your idea, we have good teachers and good students, structured curriculum and guides but we don’t have enough classrooms and facilities.

We just couldn’t do everything in just one snap.

I highly agree!

That’s the reason why I foresee that what I have been thinking will happen maybe after many centuries.

I love your valuable comment @gavinci13. Thanks for dropping by and sharing your thoughts also. I am from Cebu City, Philippines.
