DARK TETRAD - psychopath, sociopath, narcissist, machiavellian - third specie and human haters - compendium.png

This is a compendium I wrote some time ago about the dark triad ( tetrad), some psychological qualities of an each personality ( disorder) trait, and everything I found interesting. This compendium is entirely made of my posts. If a post is already published it is listed under the title together with the ledger link.

Dark triad (tetrad) , sociopaths and third species

There is a little bit of a difference between a psychopath who goes after a human being in pursuit to harm emotionally, and a third specie who is often non-emotional and not interested in any provocative or emotionally harmful behavior.

Now, if the Third species is a psychopath, why would it go after someone's emotional pain? Emotions are in general for the Third specie/ psychopath a very exotic category so it is not logical why would they even go into a situation that gets them nowhere.

The psychopaths are naturally very calculated so getting into any non-calculated risk, such a playing with person emotions is kind of a risky business. Maybe there is a little more to it, but what it can be seen superficially. That is probably because there are shades and levels of the same thing.

Psychopathy is only one of the dark triad behavioral 'deformations', others are narcissism and machiavellianism, one to be a sick self-admiration and another sick self-interest. Of all, the psychopathy is the most complex and the hardest to pin down.

Sociopaths do not belong in the triad, because they are completely another category. It could be very likely that a real Third species does not be long to any category of a deformed behavior, but it can be something completely different.

Sometimes, even if a person strongly belongs to the psychopath category, something crucial is different- the pure psychopaths are said not to have any feelings or empathy, but not all are the same.

Aside from the capability to learn empathy, to switch feelings off/on and to actually care for others ( indirectly caring for own interests) and disinterest to emotional torture, there is a little to none difference, so I will continue referring these two as a same, even if it is not so - until I find some theory that can explain me a difference in particular detail.

There is another option - that an emotional torture psychopath is actually any of two remaining categories from the dark triad, which was confused for a psychopath.

Psychopath Sociopath prominent qualities

Source

One of the most prominent qualities of the Third species is a belief that just because they can control themselves better they are better than the ordinary humans. This can be easily used in the military or medicine where a person just needs to be like that. It doesn't make them Gods.

Human hater in other hand wants others to believe how better he is from everybody else - but unlike the Third specie who works towards a goal to be better in something - this one has nothing to back up his claim. Human haters suffer from the inferiority complex in a same amount that a Third specie suffers from a egocentric tendencies.

It is said that both the sociopaths and Third species are violent, but violence in the case of the third specie is more the cruelty. Third specie can be insanely cruel and to torture people ( or animals) without any feeling of a guilt or remorse.

Human haters actually enjoy in hurting others, while more than often - they love animals better than people.

There is no proof that the Third species may suffer from a hereditary brain damage or some genetically inheritable malfunction. There is no proof of any neurological medical condition. Unlike the Human haters , they seem to be of a 'perfect' mental health.

Psychopaths are Third species

I know that calling my blog Third species and its topic is related to the psychopaths/ sociopaths is a logical mistake and obviously just a construct. In fact, I called it like that only because of the psychopaths, as the sociopaths ( the human haters) are only damaged people who went sideways and started behaving like an insane violent jerks.

Psychopaths are born with a certain defect, or a different brain, but I highly disagree that they 'suffer' from any kind of the antisocial personality disorder. It is also proven that the psychopathy is 60% hereditary. They are not crazy, they don't require any therapy and nothing can change them or make them develop the emotions.

That's why I call them third species - literary they are the aliens. So, from now on I will call the sociopaths - the Human haters, and the psychopaths - the Third species. It is easier to differ them in that way when you know what is what.

For some reason the Third species behaves more like an insect, than the human being. The lack of emotions/ complex emotions, calculated risks and behavior all resembles ( from my point of the view ) to a huge insect who fights to survive in a human jungle.

Can a sociopath have a job and family?

A sociopath is a conflict driven hot mess who actually can't keep a job. While the psychopaths usually get bored on a steady job, a sociopath gets messy and ruins it all by himself.
Unlike the psychopaths, a sociopath is slave to the habits, repetitive behavior and obsessions. A psychopath can't develop any obsession, compulsive behavior or a psychosis, because simply he has no brain to function in that direction.

Sociopath is also usually prone to the depression and it will highly effect his work ethics and capability to function daily.

Sociopath's family life is usually disturbing, filled with the conflicts, they tend to create a lots of short term relationships, dysfunctional families are common. A sociopath usually drinks, smokes, do drugs, gambles and does all the dumb things to punish himself and everybody around. Think of him as a complete opposite to the psychopaths.

While a psychopath will seek partner to comply to his own agenda or to fulfill his personal plan, a sociopath will always chose a random person they find attractive and usually it will end up in a catastrophe.

Sociopath is unpredictable, drama prone, has the inclines towards violence, has sudden outburst of the rage... But, unlike the psychopaths, a sociopath will show a full range of the emotions so his partner will have a problem to estimate what a hell is going on. A sociopath can go from sweet and loving to the cruel and nasty in a second, and usually without a visible reason.

While a psychopath is manipulative, calculated , cold and unemotional, a sociopath is everything but - all his feelings are intensified and the most common ending is a rage explosion.

Can a psychopath have a job and family?

The psychopaths are the classic thrill seekers who refuse to keep a steady job. They also can't keep a habit or they notoriously keep a strict daily schedule with the help of a planner - they are not prone to habits and usually stick to them by the logical resolutions but not for the personal indulgence.

When they have a reason to keep a job they will put all extra effort to be successful - this includes psychopaths with the families. Just because they can't experience complex emotions doesn't mean that they can't have a picture perfect family.

Usually they chose a partner who is more emotional that they are, so they can have a nice role model close enough to mimic in case of a need.

Psychopaths will preplan the entire personal agenda, step by step, tediously working on it until his goal is reached. Because they feel no hate, jealousy or infatuation this makes them a pretty calm and agreeable partners. The lack of the emotional warmth is usually substituted with the physical closeness, intelligence and thoughtfulness both to the kids and to the partner.

Calculated and manipulative they will easily get the things done their way, because their folks will be persuaded that their choice is absolutely the best. Depending on a situation they can show emotions, but much lesser in intensity - or completely different in quality.

Love, jealousy and infatuation are usually very suitably substituted with the happiness, envy and euphoria. Don't make the false assumptions, psychopaths are everything but tamed and they will not stand a mouthy or conflicting partner. In case that a 'romantic' choice doesn't fit their idea they will quickly shift to another person without much mess and drama.

Sociopath vs psychopath - comparison

Sociopaths are messy and crazy, but natural born human beings who went sideways after- either during the situational defect, emotional trauma or even a physically damage.

So, when you see what a 'normal' human is capable off when nuts, I see no mistake in logic when a psychopath thinks he is superior to these defects of the society and nature. To make one thing bluntly obvious - the psychopaths are born different, deprived of one capability in favor to the another.

This doesn't mean that they are better, usually they care little about other people which is quite disturbing but they also have no interest in committing a homicide. If a psychopath turns bad, there should be some logic to his actions. They rarely or never do things just because or randomly without a plan.

All psychopaths can easily live among the humans and they are very hard or impossible to notice. The most obvious reason is because the 99.99% of them are not an insane killers like people like to believe.

Psychopaths can't experience a full span of the human emotions, especially the ones which are too strong or too complex. Its odd but still not a reason enough to go into a killing spree. In other hand the sociopaths are capable experiencing all these things and they are a real danger to everybody, basically because they can't control their impulses and they do feel remorse or guilt for the things they do.

The sociopaths super inflate all their emotions, usually till the edge of a complete insanity and rage that easily turns into a violence if a trigger moment is met. Anything can be a trigger.

Because an unprotected animal pet is a substitute for a human being.
In many cases, these are usually the dogs, but I also saw many cases of the horse cruelty, and even cats and bunnies.
I will assume you know nothing about dark tetrad so I will explain in short.
Dark tetrad is a cumulative name for the personality disorders that include psychopathy, sociopathy, narcissism, and Machiavellianism.
For some reason, you will find online resources that instead of sociopathy lists sadism instead and a sociopath is equalized with a psychopath, which is completely incorrect.

Let me show you why, in my own words. I am sure you will be able to find much better analyses in other resources.

Personally, if a person is no direct threat in a violent way for the community, I tend to believe that anything that is 'born' is some sort of the evolutionary adaptation to the terms of the life.

Sociopath is made, has the ability to feel complex emotions, hate, and love, inclined to violent crime, feels remorse for a crime, knows he done wrong, human hater, violent, unpredictable, erratic, rational, lower IQ, can suffer psychosis, frequent and the long rage attacks, impatient.

Psychopath is born, doesn't have the ability to feel hate and love, not inclined to violent crime, doesn't feel any remorse after a wrongdoing, believes it was necessary, emotionally inept, cold, calculated, logical, higher IQ, can't suffer any psychosis, A displayed 'rage' is usually a very short act, patient.

Narcissist is made, has the ability to feel hate and love, not inclined to violent crime, doesn't feel any remorse after a wrongdoing, believes he is entitled, emotionally shallow and selfish, emotionally unstable, visceral, random, irrational, average IQ, can suffer psychosis, usually the passive-aggressive display of the rage.

Machiavellian is born, has the ability to feel love and hate, heavily inclined to non-violent crime, doesn't feel any remorse, abuses all means for own gains, emotionally calculated, emotionally stable, mental, organized, rational, higher IQ, can suffer psychosis, no display of rage, manipulative.

Animal cruelty and mental disorders

A sociopath is, in essence, a person who hates humans, but it doesn't mean he hates animals. Still, it is not unusual that in the absence of a more suitable victim a sociopath will turn to the violent rage display against the unprotected animal.

The book example is the dog owner who tortures the animal after having a bad day. The most gruesome detail is that sociopath knows what he is doing and he knows that it is wrong, but he sadistically enjoys in violence and cruelty and later he also masochistically enjoys in self-deprivation and guilt about it.

A psychopath is a person who lacks the complex emotional dimension and he is in no way inclined to harm either humans or animals unless they are considered dangerous. I will stress the word 'UNLESS' because it includes kind of a very loose and wide range of what we believe to be dangerous.

Book example is killing any kind of a hostile animal without any feeling of remorse for the act. If the animal poses a threat, he will go after it in the most cunning way. The poison is a usual way because it leaves a little to no trace.

The narcissist will use an animal pet as a platform to display the whole rage of the falsity of their character.

Book example is over-exaggerated and usually false love and attention for the animals in order to gain attention and build an image of himself as a tender and caring person.

Machiavellian can't care less. If an animal is adding nothing to their personal interest he will probably give it to the shelter, or better yet give it to somebody else.

Book example is a dog owner who finds out that his so-called blue blood champion is, in fact, some street breed so he gives it to the willing victim praising an exotic dog breed nobody heard off.

Narcissistic outburst - Spoiler Alert - mention of bananas and worms

I wanted to make a better title, but ... after a featured image, no explanation is really necessary.
The fact is, the narcissist does not want you to explain - to explain, but to start all that fine grained drama. To avoid a play, don't get into it. Simple.

If you really can't constrain yourself, expect to see the shit flying to another dimension of crazy.

Narcissistic people have unstoppable tendency to explode, make drama and cast false accusations even if you 100% agree with them, apologize multiple times or even chose to ignore them or whoever is taking their side.

It is not because you said something, or because you are rude, or they are rude, or they have a bad day, but because you are dealing with the narcissist who just waits for another dose of high, and IT just happened to be you.

Normal people get high on pot or seek more or less acceptable self-gratification, but the abnormal ones, like the narcissists, are actually miserably unhappy if they don't deliver a banana polish to somebody else.

Well, in case they are so eager to provide, let them and laugh.

The narcissists are allergic to other people being happy because they are devoided of the capacity to feel any themselves.

In their case, instead of the center for being happy, their brain is equipped with the huge bot-fly that keeps on filling their brains with the flash eating worms, until there is nothing left.

Their feeling of the self-worth is highly sensitive to the sound of laughter. They have the feeling of the self-worth so deeply stuck up there, that any auditable laughter will probably set it off to self-destruct and rip them in pieces.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!

I will post a table so you can follow up easily what I am saying.
You can see that two members of this dark 'family' of mental disorders are born, and other two are 'made'.

Screenshot_13.jpg

Because of this reason, the psychopaths and Machiavellians literary have no conscience whatsoever, nor they had an inner voice telling them that they are doing something really bad.

From two, the psychopaths are complete voids when it comes to acknowledging the wrongdoing, crime or violence. They feel absolutely nothing nor they know they have done anything wrong. For them, it is only a matter of the situation or a battle of the fittest. Because they inner voice tells them that they have to survive and remove all threats, they suffer no psychosis and they feel no remorse.

Machiavellians, do exactly the same, but their inner voice is gauged by manipulation and abuse of others. Still, they know the difference between right and wrong, but only fail to acknowledge it. Their inner voice is gauged to win at any cost and it tells them they have to be better every step of the way regardless who will suffer along the way. For this matter, they are able to experience psychosis, even if they fail to feel any remorse or show emotions.

Other two, the sociopaths and narcissists are a whole different universe. They are made, by circumstances, environment, accident... It doesn't really matter how. These two are a hot mess.

Both the sociopath and narcissist have the inner voices that tell them how they worth shit, but they should hide it and only ask the best for themselves.

The sociopath is a sadist that will do all kind of the things knowing that it is wrong, and both sadistically enjoy doing it and later masochistically enjoy in self-deprivation.

A narcissist is the same thing but he/she desperately needs another person's attention to survive, while sociopath actually enjoys violence itself.

All four disorders don't see people as persons, but rather like animals or less worthy organisms.

For a sociopath, violence is the pleasure.
For narcissist it is same but he tortures his victims and feels entitled to do so.
Psychopath uses violence as a means to obtain power but he does not have any feelings towards violence not he feels the power as a pleasure.
Machiavellian uses violence because he feels it is a necessary thing to obtain his goals.

Source Repost

Do you think psychos and cold-blooded villains can ever live in peaceful co-existence? Is it hereditary?

I will just write about the psychopath and sociopath because they can come out as similar but in the essence, they are not.

The Machiavellian ( a fraudster) and narcissist ( an emotional vampire) do not fall into the extremely category like the psychopaths and sociopaths.

Psychopath

Psychopaths are only dangerous if you actually provoke them, which can be anything really, but a major thing is if they find a person dangerous. If not, they don't give a shit.
You can scream at them, make all kind of bs, even cause them some material or financial damage, but if they don't find you existentially life-threatening, they will not be triggered.
Psychopaths are not triggered by a loss of money or possessions, so if you grab some money from them or crash their car, they will not even blink at you.
There is a bigger chance they will poison a neighbor's dog that appears dangerous ( because a dog has teeth and barks all time...).
They are born non-emotional and everything sums down to existence to them, like insects.
Some psychologists contemplate that psychopathy ( on this level) is actually an evolutionary mutation and not a mental disorder.

Sociopath

Sociopaths are a category that is problematic. Most of the monsters ( I think all of them) in prisons are sociopaths, and not psychos.
Sociopaths hate humans and they can be triggered by anything. The reaction is violent and hostile, without any thinking and erratic. A sociopath will go after you like a rabid dog.
Even if you end up in some sort of an accident with a sociopath, like a minor car accident, he will go insane and crazy right there.
Sociopaths are born as normal human beings but due to some trauma, they are changed into a perversion of a human being. Everything sums down to the pleasure of violence and right after it a masochistic self-deprivation.
Sociopathy is not an adaptation of any kind, these people have absolutely normal brains, they feel fear, they experience stress and guilt.

Superficial Similarities

The reason why many people see them as alike or extremely alike is that both of them are on the surface egocentric, emotionless, extremely aloof, cold, show the extreme displays of rage, huge sense for entitlement, thinking they are better of others, no empathy, risk-prone, excitement seeking... etc.

This is why some branches of psychology consider a psychopath and sociopath to be a synonym with variations, and instead of a sociopath, they use another term for the last tetrad member - a sadist. With all traits taken into consideration, a sadist is a sociopath, so I will stick to the previous division.

Differences between psychopath and sociopath

I will explain each point listed above.

Both psycho and sociopath are egocentrics, risk-prone, and excitement seeking. This is beyond the debate.

The sociopath is only emotionally cold on a surface, psycho is in general all-through a block of ice. Unlike the sociopath, a psycho can fake emotions and act through them impeccably.

Aloofness is another trait that is very obvious, both of them withdraw after being affected by some sort of an emotional bombing - a sociopath does it because he knows an impact of the emotions and psycho does it because he knows others will see he feels nothing.
Coldness- a psychopath has a natural cold 'aura', you can feel it, but sociopath really shows an evil kind of the same. You feel danger from him, and it is rarely a wrong conclusion.

Display of rage is extreme, but also different. The sociopath will have a huge and long reaction and will need maybe even hours to calm down. The psychopath will be a tornado one moment and a complete expressionless plank of wood the next. This is because he doesn't actually feel anything, he acts it to intimidate and regain power.

Entitlement - a sociopath feels somehow better for other people and usually feels teh disgust towards them. But, he has nothing to back up that claim a din general sociopaths are actually much worse than average people in their achievements if any. The psychopath is the opposite. He has in comparison to a huge ego no vanity whatsoever. His conclusion that he is better than others comes to a logical conclusion by observing how stress influences an average people. Of course, he does not experience any so his performance is naturally, more effective.

Empathy - sociopath will show and have zero empathy for people, while psychopath has no idea what empathy is but can develop an ability to be extremely empathetic. Psychopaths are highly intelligent and not only they can learn to emulate emotions, they can also recognize them in detail.

Conclusion

So to answer the question I was given...

With all taken into consideration, a psychopath ( as a natural occurrence among the population) can be a part of society without any incident, while a sociopath - can not.

Just being born with a brain that can't acknowledge complex emotions or be able to synthesize an essence of empathy is not a base to become a cold-blooded murderer.
Just being driven to a life of a perpetual pain, misery and torture is not a base for a person to become a sociopath either.
There should be something besides that to explain individual differences.

In essence, a narcissist is a pathetic crippled being who can't survive without other people's attention and he is more like an emotional vampire in that sense.

With no fresh inflow of inflicting mental abuse to others and feeding on their emotions and pain, he literally withers and dies.

That's why many narcissists are often depressed and 'nobody loves them'.

The first thing to notice about the narcissist is that they 'fall in love' so fast and they literary love bomb their victims.

But, they don't fall in love with a person, they just got hot for their next 'meal'.

Because to the narcissists, your emotional reaction towards him is food.

You, as a person, don't matter. He doesn't see you as a person, more like a plate of spaghetti.

So, if you somehow missed the first stage when he adores you and all that jazz, you will definitely notice the second stage, when he stops adoring you and starts harassing and gaslighting you.

Your tears and confusion, explanations and persuasion are just additional cheese put on that plate of spaghetti.
But, if he can't get enough from you or your reaction is not enough hormonal, not enough emotional, not enough outrageous - he will simply jilt you and find somebody else who is more explosive, more expressive and often more empathetic.

So, if you recognized a pattern and you simply want to get rid of a leech, stop reacting whatsoever.

One of the most common ways to recognize a narcissist is the way he will egg you to react negatively. He will be obnoxious and use any mean whatsoever to provoke the reaction by the things you hate or can't stand.

Now if you can withstand the afterglow, or if are born un-emotional, try to see how quickly this leech will crawl back after you fry him with teh anger and rage.

Because, that will be exactly what will you experience with that thing every single time you give him ' a lesson'. That is the only thing he needs you for.

After he drains you, he will pass his interest to another victim.

Just to be absolutely sure that you understand what I am talking about here, no normal person can stay normal sharing a life or any kind of bond with a narcissist.

The only 'person' ( better yet a creature) who can share a bond with the narcissist and not experience any sort of an emotional scourge is some sort of a hardcore psychopath.

You can't drain a dead guy...
