Do you know that proper understanding of the mental processes which underpin the formation of the habit can aid the breaking out of those harmful patterns and thereafter build newer and even a better one?

When you look at what you do almost what you do daily are all based on habit, which definitely tells me that it is the habit you engage yourself into that structure your life. Habit gives stability in your engagement and makes you focus on the most important things you need to attend it. When you are so deeper in what you do daily its become your normal routine and you just find yourself slipping into autopilot which is even part of what makes the whole world go round and the moment you start engaging yourself in what can destroy yourself in those autopilot engagement you are set to break that habit you built.

I will say, breaking a habit is one of the most difficult things just because of neurological reason.

Explanation

Do you want to break a habit? Every of your daily task and engagement forms a pattern of the neuron and in as much is a continuous engagement your neuron connection becomes stronger and not easy to break.

For clearer information, a man that is said to break a bad habit is willing to alter the wiring of his brain just because our brains are built to love the brain and this simply means that to break loose, you need to engage your brain via reasoning, thinking and take decision thereafter. This will surely fight back but you just have to stand your ground while you seek for the prospect in your habit formation.

What To Do, Breaking The Barrier!

Nothing is impossible is to break or form, it is your understanding that determines your stand. What is the psychological concept that releases out how the habit is formed?
When you are thinking of bad or good habits theses concept I want to state here are very important..

  1. Ignorance is not welcome when it comes to habit formation or destruction.

Most time we thought people continue in the bad habit because they don't know the bad side of it but I came to tell you that, the reason the majority of them don't stop is not that they are not aware of the outcome of such habit, but they have framed the belief around that habit.
Example: Some that smoke believes it will make him warm and relieve stress for him or her, this is true and it's not about ignorance. Ignorance doesn't trigger bad habit rather condition, environment and beliefs are mostly contributing to bad or good habits.

Solution: You need to trace your behavior back to your belief and when you are able to do it will guide you on what is good and bad for you.
Just be truthful to yourself.

  1. Habit Exist In Automatic Way

Have asked this question how possible you can drive a car and at the same time talk with the passengers or friend beside you? This simply means your brain can complete a behavior without you thinking about such habit.
Anytime you are calculating or trying to make a decision about a particular behavior that's never a habit. What you have been doing continuously don't need decision or calculation, its an autopilot. The moment a behavior has become a habit, you need something to trigger it and the moment it comes you don't need to think or calculate before you act.

Solution: it is a bad habit and you are thinking about how to stop it since it is automated, you need to find the trigger, identify it and the moment you identify it to start working towards it, it is bad work towards killing the trigger and if is good work towards sharpening it the more..via practice.

In conclusion, it is your decision that propels your actions and when your decision did not go with your believe check it out and plan your way out of such behavior.
