Look at this world-class thinker called Richard Feynman.

Who is Richard Feynman?

Richard Feynman is a famous physicist who received his undergraduate degree from MIT and his Ph.D. from Princeton. This man was able to develop a reputation for waltzing into the math department by solving many problems that even brilliant Ph.D. students couldn't solve.

There is one thing about this man, the response he gave when asking him about how he was able to resolve any problems given to him. Richard always claimed, the secret weapon was not his intelligence but a strategy he learned in his high school. Do you want to know this strategy? Come along as I share it with you:

Feynman was talkative during his high school days and his physics teacher one day asked him to stay after class one day and gave him a challenge. The teacher declared: *Feynman you talk too much and make noise all over seems like you're bored, take this book and go to the back of the class and study the book and when you finish the study of the book, you can then talk.

This challenge every day makes Feynman hide at the back of the classroom to study the book called Advance Calculus By Woods and the rest of the class continued with their regular studies. This challenge and study Feynman engage himself in resulted in the development of his own set of mental models.

Advanced Calculus for the benefit of those that did not study science showed how to differentiate parameters under the integral sign. Many of us reading this piece especially if you are from the part of the country I came from will agree with me that calculus was not properly taught during university days which occurred to Feynman also. The challenge that his physics teacher brought to him was the baseline which he used over and over. One thing Feynman declared again was about his self-taught with the book, he had some many ways and methods of doing integrals just because of self-taught challenge he picked and act upon.

I have the understanding that they would have found the solution if it was a simple series expansion. The differentiation of you from your peers like I stated early its not your raw intelligence but the way you see the problem. Feynman had a broader set of mental models and this brought about a new way of providing a solution to a problem everybody was unable to solve.

What Does Mental Model Entails?

This is a model that explains the pathway of how thing should works. It is a framework, worldview or let me say a concept that you carry inside of you everywhere you go. The mental model resides in you.

Look at it from this perspective:

How economy works is based on demand and supply mental model. if you are in a game the theory that works his the relationship and trust work which is the mental model you carry to win the game. Also understanding how disorder work then you must have what mental model called Entropy.

The word Mental Models frame your perception and behavior. These models are the thinking tools that you will use to understand life issue, making some strong decisions and solve some major problems. when you learn a new model of mental reasoning it will give you a new way to see the world you are in.

Note: Mental models are useful but its imperfect.

From psychology perspective, no single model of mental reasoning that provides a flawless explanation of the entire universe, but you will agree with me that there is a model of mental reasoning that allows us to build bridges and roads, even develop new technology and travel to outer space.

No theory is 100 percent correct but the real test of the knowledge acquired is not truth but utility. When you come close to me I will tell you that the best mental models are the ideas with the most utility which are broadly useful in daily life. The understanding you have about this concepts will guide you in wiser choices and take better actions. Let me conclude here.
