The Simplest, Most Intriguing Conspiracy Theory on Kavanaugh Hearings (With Scientific Proof)

in #psychology6 years ago

I don't talk about political issues unless it is related to philosophy, psychology, technology etc. After all politics is a waste of time no matter how you interact with it. It is the tangents that I'm interested in. But while browsing the internet I came across a theory that is very interesting, simple and even make tons of sense to a firm believer of both Occam's razor and Hanlon's razor which are mighty rules of thumbs especially when it comes to social, political and economic matters. If there is a simple theory that makes thing look like a stupid mess blown up and gone FUBAR, it's probably the best theory among all grand conspiracies.

The Theory

I don't believe Dr. Ford is lying. I also don't believe Kavanaugh is, either.

During the 80s and 90s, repressed memory recovery was all the rage. It was the go-to excuse for a range of problems. "Trouble sleeping? You may have repressed some kind of abuse. Let's recover it."

Problem is, the memories of this abuse was rarely real and turns out the therapist was planting a false memory. Immense malpractice suits followed.

Drastically altering memory, either radically altering an event or inventing one that never happened (or even convincing ourselves a dream we had in the past is a real event), is remarkably easy and common. All it takes is four little things:

  1. Pressure the person that remembering the event is critical. (Check)

  2. Attempt to substitute imagination to help fill in gaps. (Check)

  3. Deny any attempts to question the logic of the memory. (Check)

  4. Memory recalled is during the ages of 14-18 when our brains are in flux and poorly develop memory. (Check)

The check indicates it is present in this case. Dr. Ford exhibits all the classic signs of false memory syndrome. Inconsistent recollection, holes not filled in until pressured to do so, other claimed witnesses confused as they don't recall major events ever happening (such as there even being a party at all) and ancillary falsehoods, like Dr. Ford claiming she has a flying phobia so bad that she requires two friends to accompany her to the testimony yet she has no trouble flying a dozen times a year for work and to the distant Seychelles without these escorts.

Memory is both our own true reality and the most unreliable thing. This is why our legal system puts little credence in witness testimony in criminal cases. I can easily manipulate anyone into having a fake memory. I could say something simple like, "What shade of blue was the wallet you had as a teen?" Many people will now wholeheartedly insist they had a dark blue wallet when it was really red.

Do I think Dr. Ford is lying? Nope. Do I think her story is a real event? Also no.

Stupidity and Carelessness is More Abundant Than Genius and Meticulous

I'm not completely denying that this is all a planned hit. I wouldn't even deny if someone say it's kind of like the attack on E Corp in the TV Series Mr. Robot where the higher ups were even aware of the attacks. If someone say Republicans are allowing this SOCTUS/Kavanaugh Hearings to continue is a a circus to distract people, I won't be too much against it. But the thing I believe in the most when it comes to conspiracies is this nice little Cornucopia called "Spontaneous Order" and the brilliance and simplicity of it.

People embrace all sorts of fads over time. The "Food Pyramid" is one such fad that contributed greatly to many of the health issues of the modern developed world. But it wasn't some meticulous plan from the medical industrial complex and the food industry. It's just a bunch of egotistical idiots messing with things setting off a chain reaction that "Allowed" the medical industrial complex to reap many benefits from.

Here is a much longer interview with Julia Shaw who is a German-Canadian psychologist who specialises in false memories.

Just Think About It For A Moment

It makes more sense and easy to imagine and fits and sync very well with spontaneous order amidst political chaos with many humans actin on their own agendas where yesterday's enemy become today's ally. When you are convinced that one party is so bad or that somebody must have really done something and when you get half a country's support, it is easier to perpetuate false and self-inflicted memories.

Sort:

And I thought you would write that K. cannot remember the events because A) he was drunk as a fish and even if not would
B) not have seen any problems with this behavior and such not remembered anything (because not special).
And if C) he would see any problems with that, he would have already altered his own memory. This is the main reason (besides normal forgetfulness) that people have wrong memories: What happens collides with their self-picture. To keep their self-picture intact the memory has to change.

A very typical sign for such behavior is of the person with changed memory does not emphasize what happened but what a good person he is, so he cannot have done anthing wrong, as K. has done it.
