Why do zucchinis preserve better than cucumbers in room temperature?

Given that both are either in air or in cartons, to protect them from humidity.
They both belong to the same family: Cucurbitaceae.
Zucchinis remain fresh for weeks when held in room temperature on thin metal sticks.
Better than if I kept them in my fridge.
