Do you think that socialism works?

In theory ownership, administration and means of production by the working classes should work like a distributed system, but in practice those means of production ends up in the hand of the state. But, it does work in companies owned by employees in a capitalist state.

If the workers in a factory are not satisfied with their working condition, the state will just suppress dissent because in practice the workers union in a "Socialist state" are under the state which is controled by a single party.

We have yet to see real socialism practiced in any socialist state, ironically companies practicing socialism can flourish in a capitalist state.

While googling I found 100 employee majority owned companies in America, some are 100% owned by employees.  The list can be found in this link: https://www.nceo.org/articles/employee-ownership-100

So socialism does work in practice (for a company at least), but not a state. But, a state that have some sort of socialism like social welfare, universal health care and free education does work by taxation.

Sort:

Capitalism is probably the most unfair system of government as only the few have control of the money therefore the people. Socialism is a more fair system but is difficult to make work because of the greed of the same people who hold all the money and power in a capitalist system. Small communes in either system, living off grid is the way forward. But its very difficult to opt out of any government system. Therefore no one is really free.😎

LOl eloquently stated! Couldn't agree more

The capitalist system you describe could only really work via protectionism and therefore is crony capitalism. Even if one group controls almost all of the money to turn a viable profit or stay on top they need to meet the demands of others in the market. Socialism is by far way more unfair because the ones on top are selected, and elbow rubbers will stay on top and in control, meanwhile the ones on the bottom fight for scraps with little mercy for their neighbors

Interesting. So as we are slaves to the capitalist system and there is no means to opt out. What system would work whereby everyone is entitled to shelter food and water as a basic right. We are now in the 21st century where there are far more poor every year and each successive government in the west has put its country further into debt. Where is the point where it no longer works?

Again dude. You talking crony capitalism. We are slaves to taxes propagated by a growing government which is quazi socialist

I had to look up Crony capitalism. So forgive me if I have this wrong, but it seems every country using capitalism is using the crony formula. Am I wrong? 😎

That is correct. Capitalism does not need the use of central banks or governments. Current capitalism is just a bastardized form of socialism with more privileges

When you say a bastardized version of Socialism. The closest form of socialism ran in the UK from after the war in 1945 With the introduction of the welfare state and the National health service. Heathcare free to all. And the nationalisation of essential services. This worked up untill 1960 when The conservatives took over then from the Thatcher government of the 1980s when the dismantling and selling off of public services began. And then into the 2000s with the destruction of welfare and the selling off of the health service to the private sector. The establishment will not tolerate the people having a stake in running the country. Multinationals rule simple.

If I need a permission slip to trade and profit from goods and services that I create and I'm forced to provide evidence of such things under penalty of law, where is the freedom of trade that a capitalist society offers?
