The fish swim
the sheets of rain pour
the rivers overflow
birds wet, migrate
the trees are too wet for the birds
the land, now a river
is it time for another of Noah's ship?
the floors damp and the clothes wet
leaky roof and the cold rooms
rainy season is full of gloom
the children are done with paper boats
the wet trips to the school
and the dripping umbrellas
dashing to the classrooms
trying to save the books
a student in Kerala
will know this best
and yet
each year
the people pray for rain
and when it comes
they start to complain
we know only two seasons
and it is wet and dry
it is time to enjoy a hot cup of coffee
and sit to watch the pouring rain

I write poems to express myself. I started writing at the age of twelve or so and some of my poems were published in magazines for children, a time when print still ruled the world. The internet and the blogging world has helped me write poems. Most of it was as I wrote earlier, to express myself and my thoughts. I have also been a ghostwriter.
Steemit has helped me write with freedom and also earned me very good friends who encourage me to write. I hope my readers will support me and also join in this contest. I am not a student of literature and so I do not consider myself an expert in poetry. It is the judge who will decide.

I loved this piece, Sayee!!!! Not only it draws a vivid picture of where you live, with all these little details as children running to school, trying to keep their books dry ) or the nature filled with rain, wet, fast and heavy... It also brings this emotion of will for warmth and comfort being at home in a rainy day, being covered with a blanket and drinking something hot (I prefer tea). Very wet and warm piece )
