A fake Timphan?

Have you ever known about Timphan? It is a special traditional food from Aceh. If you're living in Jakarta, it's not difficult to find that food. Many Acehnese coffee shops provide Timphan on their menu.

Timphan is made from glutinous rice flour mixed with banana or pumpkin or purple yam as dough. Egg custard or sweetened coconut shred as the filling. Fill in the dough with the filling then wrap it up with young banana leaves, steam it for 30-45 minutes.

My wife @cicisaja always want to make timphan because My Father really loves that food. But, young banana leaves always an issue here in our neighbourhood. Even the travelling vegetables vendors couldn't supply any of it. But, She decided to try her luck by using plastic sheets as the wrapper, today.

She made the egg custard by cooking the mixed of a cup of eggs, a cup of sugar, one and half cup of coconut's milk. Then, she boiled about a hundred gram of pumpkin in light coconut's milk. She made dough with the pumpkin and glutinous rice flour.

Then, she greased the plastic wrap with cooking oil before she took some dough, fill in the dough with custard and wrap it up just like using the banana leaves, like envelope.

She didn't know how many flour she add to the dough, "as much as the dough need it" , She said. So, it's depend on how good your feeling is😰. But I assume that she add about 200-300 grams of it. She made 24 timphan this time.

She shared half of the timphan to my sister who lives in the next block of ours, Cici knew that Mbak Asih, My sister loves timphan. She usually buy it from The Acehnese Coffee shop too. But I don't know how she will react when she got the timphan wrapped up in plastic 😂. We'll know about it tomorrow. Perhaps, She will send some young banana leaves instead.

Of course, the taste will not ever be same as it is wrapped up in the banana leaf, but after all, this is what we can have. Only the fragrance of banana leaves were missing, the taste is sweet and soft just like other Timphan too, but Cici keep saying that it's a fake Timphan for her. 🤔

You know, when we have a habit and try to change it, there's a lot of things need to be adjusted. I believe that creativity sometimes emerged from the situation We face. A fake or false Timphan is Timphan. For the first time in her life, Cici made Timphan herself. She couldn't ask for it from her mother whom I know as the best Timphan maker I ever ate so far.

Ramai beragam, rimbun menyelara, peribahasa lama yang bermakna setiap orang mempunyai sifat dan kegemarannya sendiri-sendiri.

I don't care it is fake, false or true Timphan, I eat because it is my wife who makes it and I know that weren't poisonous 😂. If the Acehnese start to make Timphan so seriously, it does mean Idul Fitri is coming, Timphan is alway a special food for special occasions in Aceh.

Kelihatan timphannya sangat enak, inovasi baru ya pakai plastik. Kue tradisional seperti ini harus dilestarikan. Salam Ramadhan 🙏.

Enak siy, tapi nggak senikmat pakai daun. Ini lah hasil kerja kalau sudah setengah mati kepingin bikin timphan tapi tak ada daun pisang pucuk, terpaksa plastik hehehe. Sama seperti "tak ada rotan akar pun jadi" yang penting gak beracun aja.

Waaaaw.. for the first time I saw timphan wrapped up in plastic. It's seem so awesome. Hahaha

This is what we called about "kreatifitas tanpa batas". Yang penting olah. Banyak jalan menuju roma. Kalau ga ada daun pisang, yauda diakalin aja pakai plastik. Untung kak @cicisaja kreatif. Jadi kalo pengen timphan tapi tak ada daun pisang, ga harus nunggu pulang ke Aceh dulu. Kelamaan laaah itu. Bisa bungkus pake plastik. Dapat ide dari mana nih kak cici?

Sudah sering kok orang bikin dibungkus plastik, cuma ya rasanya beda banget, tidak ada keharuman daun pisang dan minyak yang mengepung adonan. Mungkin ini pertama dan terakhir kalinya cici bikin timphan palsu, daun pisang meskipun tua tetap lebih baik.

Merayakan Lebaran dimana, bang? Tidak berkunjung ke Aceh kah?

Iya dong nggak pernah lihat, lhaa di Aceh nggak kurang daun pisang kan? Ini cuma buat yg susah dapat daun.

Alhamdulillah, banyak dong bikinnya 👍, lebaran ini di Pamulang lagi, nggak bisa pulang ke Aceh, ortu mau berangkat haji setelah lebaran, jadi harus dibantu persiapan juga.

Memang kurang mantap kalau nggak pake daun, nanti kalau dek kiki pergi dari kampung, ke tempat yg susah daun pucuk pisang, pasti mau gak mau harus cari cara utk tetap bikin timphan.

Tapi, pakai plastik yg aman buat makanan yaa 😃

Kalau pepes tidak menuntut jenis daun tertentu, tidak ada daun pisang bisa daun jambu, daun jati, daun pandan, dll. Timphan tidak sama dgn pepes

Mbok nanam dhewe pohon pisange 🤣
