Sigh....

There are some days when the best well-laid plans go to crap. Today was one of those days! I was at the airport way in advance, checked in and security passed with 2 hours to spare (I'm a nervous traveler, I like to be at the right place in advance, I've missed flights before...).

And so I was sitting at the departure gate, when 1 hour before boarding the flight is cancelled. Apparently there wasn't a crew ready to fly, but I'm not sure if that was code for something else. Anyway, I'm travelling with an orchestra group, so as far as I was concerned, it was a time for the tour manager to let their skills shine! Or at the very least, stay out of the way and don't add to the chaos! Unlike other "helpful" souls in the orchestra!

Helpfully, the airline booked us immediately onto a late flight on the next day, which ensured that we would miss completely the rehearsals before the concert. So, not an ideal solution. But again, I just stuck to playing a new game on the Switch whilst others ran around like headless chickens trying to sort out travel for the whole group using only their phones and otherwise incomplete information!

So, after 2 hours of sitting around, we finally got booked onto an early 7am flight which would get us in time for the afternoon rehearsal. So, all that was left was to discover where our bags were and then get to whichever hotel the airline had reserved for us! It took another hour of waiting around for them to discover where our bags were, and then when they came out, one had already been lost!

Ahhhh, a comedy starts to develop!

So, to cut a long story short, it was about 6 hours of waiting around with no information at the airport, we were directed to a machine to claim our hotel vouchers... and in keeping with the tone of the day, the machines didn't work and couldn't find our original cancelled flights!

So, we had to wait around for another hour whilst our hotels and buses were manually booked. By this time our tour manager was looking like a wreck and most of the musicians were super agitated and irritated. However, I was enjoying Zelda on the Switch!

So, the photo above is the lovely view from my hotel this evening! I have a great ground floor view of the carpark!

Meanwhile, dinner was also keeping in the theme of the day. Overcooked vegetables, chicken that was solid and rock hard and a cream of corn soup that tasted like Corn Flakes!

A long day, and finally at the hotel, food in the belly. So, what to do but to kick back now and relax while listening to Talk of the Line from @thesteemengine!

It's been a productive day of sitting around on airport floors and playing Zelda, oblivious to the chaos that was surrounding me. Early start tomorrow!
