For Your Love went down in history mainly for one reason. It made international stars out of The Yardbirds, who never charted in UK and US before. But there was another thing... it pushed Eric Clapton – back then a blues purist – to leave the band 🎶

What is even more important though, it marked venturing of the group from r'n'b into new territory, that didn't have a name yet, but soon was to be called psychedelic rock.

For Your Love was written by 19-year-old Graham Gouldman – who later joined 10cc – while he was still playing with Manchester-based The Mockingbirds, and was largely fascinated by The Beatles, but composition was dismissed by the band's recording company on a dime.

However, the manager of the band, Harvey Lisberg, loved the song so much, that he decided to sell it to The Beatles via Ronnie Beck, who took the demo tape with him to play it to the musicians after the gig in Hammersmith, London.

Coincidentally, the gig was supported by The Yardbirds, and the track felt into the lap of their manager/producer Giorgio Gomelsky, who liked the tune, but decided to modify its structure by using the harpsichord, which was an absolute novelty at that time!

The instrument was played in studio by Brian Augur of This Wheel's On Fire fame, and Gomelsky decided to add some bongos on the top of that, which paired with minor key of the song, gave it exotic, psychedelic vibe... that couldn't lack notorious rave-up either.
