Your family has no right to determine what happens in your relationship, as much as his family has no right too. Imagine if his mother gets in the act too? Exactly. This kind of action would only end up in breaking hearts and a bit of selfishness is in play here. You exhibit acute selfishness. You feel the world should wait on you and it doesn’t matter how many people get hurt in the process. That is bad. It goes for both parties, please.
I am only using this lady’s scenario as a case study. Guys have found themselves in situations like this too. You can’t eat your cake and still have it. Be considerate. Situations like this when your family has a major say in your relationship or marriage is wrong. You’re setting up yourself for your man or wife to either walk out on you, or accept inferiority.
I came across this from Leke Alder and wish to share this part too and I quote:
”Parents have to be careful about meddling in their children’s marriage. Such meddling has torn many marriages asunder. Parents have a moral authority. Notice how many young men can’t confront their mum even when her pair of scissors is trained on the fabric of their marriage. And you ought to exercise wisdom. Sometimes parents seek to correct THEIR marital mistakes by meddling in their children’s marriage. They want to fashion the marriage they should have had. Of course, if you and your spouse want to spend your Christmas break in the country home of your dad that’s okay. But it should not be imposed. That’s parental tyranny.”
That is not far from the truth at all. Like I said, they can suggest but the final decision rests with both of you. It shouldn’t be imposed.
