Scripture is the story of Jesus, from Genesis to Revelation. There are over 400 prophecies and representations of Jesus in the Old Testament alone. The Old Testament pointed forward to the coming Christ, and the New Testament points back to Jesus. The Bible is a record of redemption through Jesus Christ who conquered sin and death when He died on the cross and resurrected three days later. The New Testament was written almost 2000 years ago. Some of the Old Testament was written over 4000 years ago. The Bible Story of the Day not only shows Jesus throughout scripture but shows how scripture is relevant to our lives today. Seeing Jesus in scripture is a major step into understanding who our God is, and how He impacts and affects our lives in every moment. I pray that the Holy Spirit opens your mind to understanding the verses and how they affect your life and gives you a better understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. I will post a link to the chapter that each passage is from, so that you can read further on your own.

Psalm 2:12

Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him! (NASB).
psalm 2 12.jpg
The Psalmist is speaking prophetically about Jesus. Jesus is the son of God. Jesus came the first time to give us salvation through His sacrifice. The people of the old Testament looked to the coming Messiah as their Savior even though they may not be alive when He came. Job acknowledged this fact in Job 19:25-26, ““As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth. 26 “Even after my skin is destroyed, yet from my flesh I shall see God; (NASB). This verse is giving us warning and instruction in preparation for His second coming. He came the first time to offer the grace of salvation. He will come again in judgement. Salvation has been offered, hence the “how blessed are all who take refuge in Him”. Job took refuge in Him even though He had not come during the time of Job. The second coming will be different than the first, and there will be wrath and perishing involved for those not blessed to be in Him.

John 20:31, “but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.” Everything we do should point back to Jesus. The way we live our lives should reflect Jesus. We should make our goal to live as Christ lived. Everything we speak about should point to Jesus. When we make Jesus the focal point of our lives then we can be comforted that we will have refuge in Him when the time comes that He returns whether we are alive or not at that time, just as Job.

Jesus is the centerpiece of Christianity. Every religion in the world has rules. Rules simply define a way to live life. Muslims cannot eat certain foods and must prayer a certain direction each day. Judaism maintains numerous laws from Moses such as eating kosher foods. Buddhists believe in treating people with kindness. Even Satanists believe that your good deeds outweigh your bad, which means somewhere in life you must do something considered good within the context of the faith. Being a good person or following rules will not secure eternal life. They will always come up short. The only way to ensure eternal life is through Jesus Christ. Scripture tells us such. Psalm 2:12 tells us to put our faith in Jesus, and those that do will be blessed. The saving grace of Jesus is not a New Testament concept. Jesus has always been the path to salvation. Job, Psalms, and Isaiah in the Old Testament tell us Jesus, the Son of God, is our redeemer. Below are a few verses of many that point to Jesus as being the only way to salvation and eternal life.

John 3:36, “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Romans 10:9, “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Isaiah 44:6, “Thus says the Lord, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the Lord of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.”

Acts 13:38-39, “Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.”
