REMME: The Evolution of a Passwordless System

in #remme6 years ago (edited)

As we all know, passwords are the most commonest method of authentication as to gain access to most information, from the PINs we use for the ATMs, debit cards, voicemails to the very complex passwords we used to protect and save the access to our documents, files, personal computers and the Network servers. The passwords are generally utilised as they are simple, less costly and very easy to utilize.

On another hand, passwords are a very poor form of protection as numerous of security breaches reported were mainly due to poorly chosen passwords, where an intruder can guess a users password either randomly or with the use of a users bio-information. Another issue that was found was the case where a user used a single password to protect numerous services, thereby an intruder can gain access to all of the services protected by the same password. (Don't blame the user, sometime he won't be able to remember all the different password he uses on different services, so he uses one password for all). This problem was solved then by the introduction of password managers in which a user can save all his different passwords securely for numerous services in a password manager safeguarded by a master password. But in the case of a hack of the password manager, an intruder can still make his way to them and all his passwords will be released. There is also the human factor, where a user can be conned to submit his password by a phishing site, or a con-artist, or a user writes down password on a paper or a file on their computer and so so and all this makes a password seem less secure and not a sufficient tool to protect user data.
All the above problems were solved with the introduction of two ways.
Firstly was the introduction of a Two-factor Authentication in which after a user inputs his password, he also has to input the two factor which is usually in the form of either a one time password generated from an app that changes every 10s, or a one time password sent to the user by sms or email, or the use of a hardware token which also generates one time passwords over 20s.

Secondly was the use of SSL/TLS certificates that is mostly used in corporate cases such as banks, etc. This method is very secure and its major component is the digital certificates, which is the file that puts ownership of a user to a specific public key. THIS IS WHERE REMME COMES INTO PLAY.

REMME Is an authentication system that is Passwordless and has a blockchain attachment to it for user authentication and the protection of a user from cyber-attacks. This system saves us the stress of inputting our username and password as it uses a SSL/TLS certificate and other factors to verify and take care of the identification process. REMME
This now posed another question, What are the advantages that makes REMME prevail over the Traditional password methods?

This answer is very simple, it works by the creating a distributed Public Key Infrastructure, PKI, and this keys generated are done over the blockchain technology.

REMME is a platform that enables users to handle and safeguard their Public Key System with a very high security that cannot be breached by hackers in a decentralised system,i.e the Blockchain technology. Remme will provide an arena where users can have a full transparent control, and can track all the certificates.

The advantages of remme over others include

  • It differs from other traditional systems as it adopts a faster and more secured Public Key system process
  • It uses a decentralized database for the keys and certificates so it cannot be hacked or tempered with.
  • It has no technological locking and API limitations.
  • It has full anonymity and has no legal issues or government problems
  • Its doesn't offer additional fees for use of different certificates.
  • it has a swift way of revoking certificates
So for a user who is interested in the use of a SSL/TLS certificate system for the protection of his or her files, I strongly advise the use of the REMME as its offer is one of a kind. Next week we will talk about the REMME TOKENS
