M.C. Kids (NES)

M.C. Kids has to be one of the most blatant examples of advertising a product in any game. This is a McDonald's themed game released for the NES in 1992. You play the role of Mack or Mick in an effort to hunt down the Hamburgler and retrieve Ronald McDonald's magic bag.

You might expect such a game to be truly horrible. However, while the story is weak and this game was somewhat derivative and similar to other platform games like Super Mario Bros., it was actually well executed with excellent graphics and some unique features. Of course, 1992 was fairly late in the life of the NES so standards were pretty high by this point.

Despite actually being a pretty decent game, M.C. Kids was not a particularly high selling game. I suspect that at the end of the day, the McDonald's theme just wasn't all that appealing for a game, even among younger kids. Interestingly, this game was re-themed for the Game Boy as Spot: The Cool Adventure which featured a different product...7-Up.

If you want to play M.C. Kids, you will have to hunt down an original or use emulation. It was ported to various computers, including the Amiga, Atari ST, Commodore 64 and DOS but only in Europe.

I had never heard of that. I guess that's because both the game and mascot are specific to the Japanese market so we never really saw it here in North America...

I've always thought it was weird seeing fastfood companies come out with their own games. Burger King did a promotion like that too... obviously it didnt end well.lol

What's surprising is that a number of them were actually decent games, unlike most movie based games for instance. There were a couple of McDonald's games, at least two based on the Spot character from 7-Up and a Dominoe's themed game that were all at least OK as I recall. Of course, there just isn't much appeal in a fast food or beverage themed game.I don't recall seeing the Burger King game though.

The Burger King games were originally promoted for the Xbox360 if I remember correctly... The games were "Sneak King", "Big Bumpin'", "Pocket Bike Racer"...

I have no clue what this comment is babbling on about, Sneak King has to be on IGN top games of forever.

I admit I have no recollection of the other two games but remember they did exist.
