I seen “Teen Titans Go! To the Movies” long time ago with my child, I went to the cinema seduced mainly by the vision that DC would be joking about the current trend of making movies about super heroes.

On the one hand - the movie is exactly about it, because the story tells about Robin's great dream that someone would make a Hollywood movie about him. Especially that productions have already been made about all super heroes and in the case of Batman there is also a production about Alfred, Batmobile and a reliable belt with gadgets. The pursuit of the young hero to become a movie star - and all the comments related to how DC made his productions is quite funny - especially when the creators of the movie laugh at the famous scene about mother's name from "Batman vs Superman. " On the other hand - this is a film that in terms of the construction of the story tries to hit mainly the younger viewer - who will play a very simple joke - consisting of repeating the same scenes and likes jokes about farting and when every time they mention about the ass is still truly the funniest joke in the world. It’s that kind of audience that creators direct the cliché messages in the film, and who’s watch the animation on a regular basis.

Theoretically - there is nothing wrong with that. The problem is that somewhere at the intersection of these two ideas a movie was made for just anyone. Some jokes are understandable not only for DC fans but also for a lot of older viewers - it's theoretically common practice - which is supposed to make parents more entertainment during watching, but in this production probably more jokes are directed to the viewer older than the younger one. The second problem is that some of these jokes are more than a bit non-educational, or rather not intended for a young viewer. Let me spoil especially because the production has long gone from the cinema - there is a scene in this film in which the Teen Titans drove a men (which surrealistically goes straight out of the music video). The car stops - the heroes get off, look at the evidently dead or seriously wounded victim and Cyborg screams "I know him, his father is from the police" and everyone is running away. When you're an adult, it's just a fun scene, but it's in a children's movie. In a movie in which the characters are run down a human and then they slip away from an accident. There are few such scenes in the movie - which makes me feel uncomfortable.

Here, of course, there may be voices that children did not see such things. Probably yes but somehow I do not feel good when that kind of joke is placed in films for young viewers in which the characters beat someone that they break his bones (moreover, he asked them not to do so, but they continue to murder him, even though the victim is not criminal). The film tries to explain these behaviors to the immaturity of the heroes, but in fact the point is to press another joke - usually understood only for an adult viewer. Anyway, the heroes of this film are terribly deprived of moral resistance - again people did not see such things, but somehow I felt in the film hall growing irritation on the cinema which on one hand tries to push the child a banal punch line about the power of friendship and the need to make friends over the desire for personal success and on the other hand, it will allow the characters to behave in a horrible way.

I wonder how kids are having fun on this movie. Mine was a bit disappointed, evidently she had much more pleasure to watch the shorter episodes of this show on tv. In my opinion it is a very extensive collage of different ideas, techniques, jokes and scenes - not necessarily coherently connected with each other. Some songs, some dreams, some music videos, a bit of action, a lot of meta jokes - the whole turns into a huge animation about nothing , which supposedly lasts only eighty minutes but gives the impression of a lot longer. Especially that the style of cartoon characters and their jokes are clearly suitable for shorter stories - as you can see at the end of the animation when the creators are juggling the same scenes and motifs and hoping that no one notices that there is now structure or plot in this movie. Young people respond well to crazy, colorful and not necessarily consistent videos, but this bit crosses the border. Anyway, it could be observed at the cinema hall where young people were spinning exceptionally - much more than, for example, on the still very well-sticking to main thread “The Incredibles 2”.

“Teen Titans Go. To the Movies” reminds me how much in recent years the trend has been deepening to make films for children or teenagers more and more into adult jokes. Something that seemed unlikely a dozen or so years ago is now the norm. Of course, nobody asks where the young spectator associates Deadpool, everyone assumes that the kids watched "Batman vs Superman" and understand what is going on with the appearance of Stan Lee in Marvel productions. For this reference to the Lion King or Tiny Toon - animated productions that appeared before some of the audience was born. All this makes the animations - more than a few flagship productions of Disney or Pixar, more and more suspended in the world between the children's cinema and the cinema for adults. Interestingly - this suspension is rarely the result of the problems being undertaken - more often just from humor or pop culture references. I do not know what to think about this trend - I have never really enjoyed it, but I see that its popularity is growing. It's a pity, because it condemns films directed only to children on the margins of nightmarish boredom, where they usually die with snoring film critics in the background.

If someone is wondering whether to turn on a young ones the Teen Titans, I am not able to answer this question unambiguously. In my opinion, in this film, more entertainment would probably be the teenagers - still young enough that they enjoy occasional joke about the hero's ass and are much more familiar with other movies that they catch all references to the DC world.

At the end of the reflection - what if DC spins such medium films (with a few exceptions) only to mark its presence on the Internet mainly by laughing at themselves, memes, parody and wars of spectators who are ready to fight on the beaten ground here whether “Batman v Superman” is a good or bad film. In this way - they managed to create a completely different presence in mass consciousness than Marvel, which people praise even for a average films. This is a brilliant marketing step - so much to insist on the seriousness of being the funniest thing on the web. This is my interpretation of DC's appearance in the film world. Pure genius of manipulation.

Ps. I am writing about it now because on Netflix appeared the new series "Titans", which I intend to watch, so probably sooner or later I will write something about it here and because of that I found it is my loose thread to the super heroes movies.

I saw this movie without any emotion. I really had nothing to look forward to. but it was a surprise to me how funny it is. I understand that it is frustrating for you to see how the industry loses the "childish" focus in this type of film. but basically it's the parents who pay for movie tickets. Of course, parents did not expect this series of jokes in this film. (at least I do not) however I think they were good jokes. I have come to recommend the movie. Your review is good. you defend your point very well ... PS: do not see Titans with your son. It is quite violent.

I know that Titans aren’t for kids, my daughter is really disappointed but she had to now that there are production about super heroes only for an adults.
