Power - Season 3 (Real-Time) Review - Part 2

in #review6 years ago

Here's the second part to my Real-Time review for the third season of Power episodes 6 through 10, these are my findings.

Episode 6 ''The Right Decision''

Ghost and Tommy finally get the upper hand on Lobos and kill him but I wasn't a fan of how the whole sequence was executed, they don't seem to be able to create tension without sacrificing believability. Ghost and Tommy bickering with each other while walking Lobos to his grave to the point where he's able to run away and get the drop on them was ridiculous, he also threatened them a few times and they were actually considering letting him go, it was an irritating sequence and it completely lacked any sort of satisfying conclusion.

Tommy seems to be a broken man after having killed what was apparently the love of his life, Holly, and in mourning her loss takes the ring he gave her to her burial site like an absolute fucking moron, Tommy's stupidity knows no bounds. His hatred for Angela definitely seems to be without sufficient motive, it's understandable why he wouldn't want her around but the pure hatred he displays for her, wanting her to die horribly and such, is in no way justified. I think he just wants Ghost all to himself, he's in love with him!

Tasha's definitely grown on me, she knows when to turn it on and has proved herself a worthy asset to his organisation, she has a valid point about his cold approach to life as well, he's like a robot! It turns out Ghost's bodyguards were the Serbians and they're the new big bad now, they threaten his family and force him back into the business. Ghost then, based on these threats, decides to break up with Angela and we're forced to listen to her cringe worthy whines as he walks out, it was extemely irritating and poorly performed.

Episode 7 ''Don't Go''

Dean AKA Milan, Ghost's new Serbian overlord pops over to Tasha's for 'dinner', no, he didn't eat her but it was definitely awkward! He also has Tommy kidnapped and beaten half to death in a bid to make him more obedient. Ghost refers to Milan as the most dangerous gangster he's ever come across given his extensive network of goons which seem to have infested Truth (Ghost's club) from top to bottom and he's definitely being sold that way. meanwhile 50 Cent lurks in the background thirsty for revenge and waiting for an opening.

50 Cent actually kills an old woman, I couldn't stop laughing, we get it, he's a bad guy, we didn't need to see him smother some nice old lady to know that, I wouldn't take the scene out though, especially given that he was on the phone to Andre at the time and mid-conversation says 'hold on', then quickly kills the old woman and jumps back on the phone like 'I'm back', it was hilarious! I don't know if that was the intended response they were going for but it definitely worked in that regard, he's gonna be kicking puppies and kittens to death next!

It becomes clear that someone from the FBI task force assigned to the Lobos case has been leaking information and they're all questioned one by one. Angela, knowing it's her but not knowing about her boss, visits Ghost and pleads with him to give her his contact so that she can essentially pin everything on him, Ghost refuses and she gets pissy, more so. As a character Angela is my least favourite, I've tried to find a reason to like her but there simply isn't one, her motives are questionable and she's morally bankrupt, what's to like!?

Episode 8 ''Trust Me''

50 Cent lures Tariq into his car and spends the day with him, a day that he seemingly intended to end with Tariq dead, he was going to shoot him in the back of the fucking head! Why? He's a child, at least just snap his neck or something, I'm surprised he didn't pull a bazooka out! Either way, Tariq expresses his hatred for Ghost just in time and 50 decides against splattering his brain everywhere. Didn't Tasha or Ghost every tell Tariq not to accept candy from strangers, because that's pretty much exactly what he did here, he's an idiot.

Angela, being the weak and pathetic character she is, falls back into Greg's arms and we get an overdue sex scene, I don't think we've had one for a couple of episodes now, gasp! All of these sex scenes are cringe-worthy as well, the song they played over this one was disgusting! After the sex we learn that Greg intends to destroy her and that sentiment is probably reciprocated on her part. Angela could receive the death sentence for her involvement, apparently, seems like everyone's liable for the death sentence in this show!

Ghost has suddenly become an alcohlic, literally, he's an alcoholic now, development guys! You have to build into these things. He works toward bring Milan down and in doing so finds out that Tommy's been seeing him on the sly, essentially cheating on Ghost. Milan visits Tasha at Kesha's hair salon to make sure Kesha doesn't know anything but they both talk very loudly about everything with Kesha pretty much in the room, so, she finds out, obviosuly. Tasha, who constantly pleads poverty, offers Kesha $500,000 to keep her mouth shut, for people with money problems money doesn't seem to be an issue!

Episode 9 ''I Call the Shots''

Tommy seems to have chosen the dark side in relation to his new Serbian brotherhood and after killing Ruiz and putting a halt to Ghost's plan, confronting Ghost about it and returning to Milan, decides that he needs to be killed, I rolled my eyes! I thought Ruiz was alright as well so that was a shame, Tommy's a fucking idiot. Greg pushes for the destruction of Angela and in the process stumbles across the real leak in their organisation, well, another real leak, his boss, which is a shame because he was almost home free there!

Ghost gives a speech about his profession, the club side at least, and seems to burst out into an awkwardly emotional sorry for ruining your lives speech for him family. Also worth noting that Tariq and his younger sister were in the same classroom for this, was Tariq held back a couple years? Speaking of Tariq, he's balls deep in this relationship with 50 Cent who inducts Tariq into the cool club by having him rob a pair of trainers and Tariq's actually pretty slick with it, he's still a little shit though, I find his face irritating, it's a slappable face.

Ghost gets his revenge on the club across the street which was pretty satisfying, Jackie Jr. from The Sopranos, who will never be in anything as good as The Sopranos again, helps him toward this end as a crooked cop, they frame the club owners for selling drugs and skip off into the sunset! Ghost and Tasha fuck each other in yet another awkwardly executed sex scene set to awful RnB music, Ghost confides in Tasha about his plan, Tasha goes to Tommy and then the first paragraph I wrote happens, should have been the last!

Episode 10 ''In My Best Interest''

It turns out that Tommy and Ghost were working together the whole time, they get the drop on Milan and his men and Ghost and Tommy put bullets in his face! I do find it hard to believe that in a crowded club nobody would notice about 10-15 people being held at gun point, but they didn't. With Milan out of the way and Tommy now working side by side with the Serbians, the ones that hated Milan at least, he plans to continue selling drugs and to do it through Ghost's club, against his wishes of course.

Greg invites Sandoval (his boss and the leak in question) over to his apartment to inform him of the evidence he has connecting Angela, Ghost and Tommy to the death of Lobos and Ruiz, why he felt the need to invite him over is still in question. Sandoval is forced to execute Greg and with Ghost having broken into his apartment earlier, Angela assumes it was him and arrests him. Not only does she arrest him, she does it on his big day at the club in front of everyone, including the paparazzi outside, what a bitch!

50 Cent actually seems to be growing attached to another human being in Tariq and showed some reluctance in using him as a pawn to extort money out of Ghost, he still did it of course but he was reluctant, that's what matters!? I kind of like the dynamic between him and Tariq, it would be interesting to see him care about something given that he seems to care about nothing at all, I wonder what that looks like. Ghost being on his way to prison obviously complicates the situation, but at least everything else worked out I suppose!

Three down, one to go! I'll see you again for my Real-Time review for season 4, more bile to come! What are you thoughts about Power? Let me know in the comments.
