Filipinos were known for being romantic people. No wonder, the most famous movie genre in this country is (surprise!) romance. We have almost seen all kinds of lovestories whether on television or big screen. We can't get enough of the giddy feeling these shows give us.

For the past decade, mainstream romantic movies dominated the cinemas. These films gained blockbuster success and were supported by local moviegoers. But as the years passed, it's safe to say that we've already had our dose of clichè romantic comedies and dramatic plotlines. So when Kita Kita (I Can See You) hit Philippine cinemas, it became a blockbuster success because of its fresh approach to romance. I guess the movie's victory was partly because of its catchy and intriguing trailer, and of course, word of mouth from people who have watched the film.

The story was pretty simple. It follows the story of Lea, a Filipino tourist guide in Japan who had temporary blindness after she discovered her Japanese fiancè cheating on him. While mending her broken heart and enduring her current dilemma, she met Tonyo, a fellow Filipino who befriended her. They became friends and eventually fell in love with each other. The most beautiful part was Lea fell in love with Tonyo even without seeing his physical appearance. She fell in love with his traits and character as a person.

The movie revolved around their trips around Japan and their funny but deep conversations. There were no extravagant scenes made just to make the movie more special. It was simple and very natural. Furthermore, the actors played their role effectively. Their acting performance was raw and honest which made the movie so relatable among its audience.

The most notable part of the movie was its major twist which was a bit common but unpredictable. The movie ended beautifully with a very emotional and heart-gripping final scene.

Kita Kita was well-written and made artistically with so much love and passion. It started a new trend of romantic films in our country which relies on the unique plot, realistic and relatable storyline, and of course, simplicity. It has proved that you don't need to spend a lot of money or shower a movie with extravagance to make it a blockbuster hit. You just need a good material and the right people to make it work. And Kita Kita, with its well-written script and committed film makers, worked very well.

If you haven't seen this movie yet, I highly suggest you to try watching it. Whether you're into romantic movies or not, Kita Kita will give you all the right kinds of emotions, and maybe, change some of your perspectives in life. It's worth your time, that I can assure you. So what are you waiting for? Grab a popcorn and a hanky now and watch Kita Kita.
