Stranger Things 2 (Non-Spoilery) Review --(Because It's Halloween! #2)

Yay, it's Halloween! And there's no better day to binge Stranger Things 2, which I just did!
This is my non-spoilery review of the show, so if you have or have not seen it, don't be afraid to read on. No spoilers, I promise! But I will be referring to details released publicly before the show dropped on Netflix.

So Let's Begin!

First, I just got to give a BIG thumbs-up to everyone involved in the series. The cast was amazing, the showrunners did an awesome job, and the soundtracks and special effects were just splendid! There was a little fear going up to the release that with all the hype, the show would fall short of our expectations, but I'm glad to say --this season actually did a lot better than the first! And if you've seen the first, you know that's really saying something!

Talk about emotional tension of every kind! Yeah, it's a horror flick, so you get what you expect --a load of highly scary scenes. But what Stranger Things 2 does best is that it does NOT sacrifice it's characters for the central story. Character growth and drama is as important to the show as the story about the Upside-down coming into the real world, and the Shadow-monster Will kept seeing in the trailers. While they are not stereotypes, the characters can definitely be identified with, and this makes us feel tge tension even more. It's not so far a stretch to see ourselves in their places. And it's so so easy to love them that the thought of losing them can be downright painful.

Another thing about Stranger Things 2 is It follows from Season One. Sorry, but if you haven't seen the first season, you're going to be as confused as the rest of Hawkings at the story and references. In fact, if not for the 340 days space between seasons, they could be aired as just one. It's that connected, and this brings all of season one's tension to bear. Unlike many sequels, the story isn't forced at all. When watching, you just can't wait to see what happens next and still, after everything, you know --you just know! --that things aren't over yet... not by a long shot!
