Hyundai Motor Studio Goyang

High performance cars are the romance of all car manufacturers. But simply increasing the number doesn't mean it's a high-performance car. To build a high-performance vehicle, you need very good technology. No one can enter, no one can enter. Making a high-performance car also means that you can put great technology into a production car.

In fact, Hyundai has made many attempts to make high-performance vehicles. It started with a sports-style coupe such as Scoop and Tuscany. After gaining technical development and experience with products such as Genesis Coupe, the company launched the high-performance brand 'N' division in 2015. Hyundai Motor achieved rapid growth in a short time even in high-performance divisions. Although Veloster N and i30N are the first models of Hyundai N, they received positive reviews in each market, and even the top gear that Korean cars were teased with each time was positive. In addition to Hyundai Motors, which makes mass-produced cars, Hyundai Motor Sports wins the rally and wins the rally through the Hyundai Motor Sports Corporation established in Germany.

That's why Hyundai decided it was time to start brand marketing. I would like to remind people that it is no longer just a company that makes such a mass production car, but a company that can make a really good car. I went to the #DiscoverN theme exhibition in Hyundai Motor Studio Goyang from July 23 to August 4.

The exhibition is divided into two types. N concept cars and mass production vehicles are displayed on the L floor where the showcase of the vehicle is held, and the rally cars and parts that participated in the actual rally in the N experience zone are displayed on the second floor. There is also a simulator for racing games with WRC and Forza Motorsport 7.

L FLOOR: DiscoverN

The exhibition on the L floor has an N Zone next to the showcase where Hyundai's vehicles are displayed.

The first eye-catching vehicle is the Hyundai N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo. The N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo is a vision car that was released with the launch of the N brand in 2015 and has since been included in the Gran Turismo Sport in 2017.

The vehicle has a total of 650 kw system output (500 + 150 kw) and features traction control with each wheel controlled by an independent motor. The vehicle weighs 972 kg and has a carbon fiber monocoque structure. It seemed to be the important car that had become a fork in the center, which gave many people who enjoy Gran Turismo the awareness of 'what is Hyundai like?'

Sideways, the RM16 of the midship rear wheel drive sports car concept unveiled at the 2016 Busan Motor Show is on display. This is the third show car to be displayed after RM15. The RM16 is equipped with a 2.0T-GDi enhanced theta engine, with a displacement of 1,998cc, a maximum output of 300ps / 5,000RPM, a maximum torque of 69kg`m / 1,650RPM, and a six-speed manual transmission. It is symbolic as the most active testbed of the N vehicle, so it appeared to be on the side of the Vision Gran Turismo.

Though it may not be noticeable, this RM16 is not a display vehicle. Unlike other concept cars, the RM Series actually worked on the test tracks in the lab, building the foundation of N. You can see this from the Namyang R & D entrance sticker on the front of the driver's seat. This car, which is displayed in the motor studio, actually runs at the Namyang R & D center, collects data for the current N, and experiments with numerous settings. It's a car.

The i20WRC rally car is on display behind the scenes. It is a monumental model that gave Hyundai Motor a great honor to win the WRC, which had previously had to indirectly participate in WRC based on Verna (Accent).

What was so surprising was the Verna WRC. Has Hyundai ever put this car on display in public? At least to the best of my knowledge, this car has never been publicly displayed. In fact, the challenge to the WRC itself deserves to be commended, but for Hyundai, this Verna WRC is a painful history. Not only did Hyundai Motor Company participate in the event, but it also supported only a simple budget and a vehicle, and it did not perform well.

However, it is undeniable that this vehicle has brought Hyundai's interest in WRC. The attempt that Hyundai took out as part of its heritage was quite novel. However, even if Hyundai recorded no record at this time, the Verna WRC exhibited was a replica of the vehicle at that time, and it was a pity that the commercial vehicle was remodeled and displayed like a rally car. The line is darkly visible so that you can't see the inside, but if you look inside, it was an automatic transmission. Maybe Hyundai doesn't have any more vehicles that were supported at the time. It is painful that we did not manage the monumental models at our company level and depended on the individual in our automobile history.

The Veloster N and i30N Line vehicles that are currently sold in Korea are on display. Unlike other vehicles with restricted access, the two cars were mass-produced vehicles, allowing them to ride freely. It was a bit unfortunate that the i30N was not displayed because it was not sold in Korea.

2F: Brand N

Unlike the first floor, narrators comment on the second floor. There is one minute in each corner, explaining and questioning and answering. The first time you enter, a video showing the N brand is shown. With Narrator, you can hear various stories related to N such as what the N symbol means, the logo design story, and the direction that N aims for.

At the entrance, you can find a brief overview of Hyundai's high-performance brand. You can check out the achievements made by Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Motorsport, including high-performance N projects, WRC entries, completions, and championships, which began with researchers from Namyang Research Institute.

Watch and watch the video and the 2014 i20WRC vehicle will welcome you. I have been a friend since the first time Hyundai Motorsport team was directly involved in WRC. Even though he had been accidentally rolling the vineyards on a practice run, the mechanics worked hard overnight to make the car the next day. It is a meaningful vehicle that gave glory to second place.

Passing past the photo station will result in scratching and soldering of the car with insulating tape. This is the actual i30N prototype that took part in the Nürburgring 24 hour endurance race in 2017. As anyone who has watched the NUR24 game knows, the endurance race is really harsh on the car. They may collide, roll, or they may break down and be unable to drive. At this time, the i30N was still in development, but Hyundai will make a reckless plan to verify its durability by launching the vehicle at Nür24. Namyang R & D researchers and racers participated in the first two vehicles to complete the 50th place in the 4th place in the class, and helped the i30N to its successful debut stage.

It would have been a challenge to display a vehicle full of such scars of glory, but I wanted to give a high score in that it was a replica of the actual vehicle, not the replica of the vehicle. The shiny new car is good, of course, but you can't capture the unique story of the car that participated in this historic event.

Moving backwards, there are exhibits of the tire change station and the pit concept. The actual i30N TCR, which participated in the 2018 WTCR (Touring Car Cup), is on display. Hyundai made its debut at the same time, winning the championship, which was the main character of the 2018 WTCR. I won 13 times in 30 seasons, and in fact the results could have been better.

In order to close the performance gap, the TCR game regulations may receive BoP (Balance of Performance) to receive various balance measures such as adding weight, increasing the garage and limiting the output. Beyond common sense. The i30N weighed in at an additional 60 kilograms, a 30mm height increase and a 2.5% power limit, which is a punishable BoP. It was blatantly a message saying, "I don't want a driver in a Hyundai to win." 'Car made well enough to receive punishment BoP' but it is very sad that you can not meet in Korea.

Anyway, this i30N TCR is also a vehicle that actually entered the competition, so it is full of scars of glory. Tear, tear, and wear marks symbolize the harsh conditions that drivers and vehicles faced. I felt positive that Hyundai Motor is not hiding these damaged cars anymore.

At the end of the exhibition hall, the tuning parts N performance parts were displayed.

The wheel is an OZ racing OEM, but the final design has not yet been finalized, leaving room for change.

Steering wheels and parking levers are also designed to be compatible with i30 and Avante Sports, but are not yet mass-produced, so the details will be released later. Most parts will be in production in December 2019.

A total of 12 kinds of goods are prepared, and all the products are displayed for you to touch. However, when I visited, the gear knob was damaged during the weekend, and it was missing from the exhibits.
