My road to Steemfest: Freetime! What Freetime?

in #roadtosteemfest6 years ago (edited)

If, for whatever miracle (and I still believe in miracles) I manage to get to Dublin this Monday to get my passport and my daughter's, then I have the following 'playlist' for you.
Long story...I might get into it at another time, but at this point I am too tired for it. But long story short:
ATM machine kept my money, the money I needed to get our passports done...(to be continued)

Tuesday 6th of November

Is when my family and I will be arriving in Krakow. Hopefully either followed by my friend from Holland or the crazy American lady and her daughter who will be taking care of my kids while I am at Steemfest.
(there will be a time when I bring them all, just not now...this time will be for me).
Now, our plane won't arrive in Krakow till 10 pm I believe, so not much time to 'explore'. Not to worry, I will take it as it comes. If I feel up for meeting others, I will, if not, I will definitely see them all the next day.

Coffee

I spoke to a Polish tattoo artist friend here in Ireland the other day, and when I told him about our visit to Krakow, his face lit up. He told me that the city is sometimes referred to as the city of coffee.
Why, you wonder? Well according to his explanation: Krakowians (or how do we call the locals?) just LOVE their coffee.
Their coffee seems to be awesome, and with that, they have a huge fan in me.

I absolutely ADORE coffee!

You will NOT find me in a very good mood in the morning if I discover that my coffee jar is empty. And it's happened before. NOT good! In fact, I have a 10 year old daughter who makes great coffee, and she will make my coffee in the morning because she knows I am just a much better person to be around after at least one cup.
If I don't get that first coffee shot?
Well, this might happen...

Just kidding... Of course I won't set buildings on fire...but you get my drift.

So yeah, I am definitely going to check out what all that fuss is about and drink some of the local coffee. Can't wait...

The not-so-touristy stuff

There has been talk about visiting Auschwitz. I will pass on that one and I will tell you exactly why.
First of all, I have already visited a long time ago. I'm an empath. I feel things. I don't want to feel that ever again!
I was so miserable after that visit, that I couldn't enjoy the rest of our trip...to Berlin ffs!

It reminded me of that one time when a few friends and I decided it would be a good idea to watch a movie first and then go out for some drinks. Well, we went to see the movie alright. But we all went straight home after it.
Feeling depressed. The movie? Schindler's list. Yup...NOT a good movie to get into the party mood with.

But my friend suggested something else. They do something that's called: Crazy Communist tour.
Now that's more to my liking. They stick you in one of those little Trabants. You know, the little cars they had during communist rule. Seen a lot of them, but never been in one. So it's time. Then they take you on a tour through time. The communist time. And to all places where the people would hang out and live when communism was still a daily thing in Poland. Yes, I like that idea. So WANT!

The description on one of the tour sites: Visit Nowa Huta, Krakow's centrally planned socialist district in a genuine, vintage Trabant automobile. Your guide will keep you amused with stories about how the average Pole lived, worked, and played under Communism. Enjoy Communist refreshments!

Bowling

I've heard rumours about some bowling going on in Krakow. I'm IN! To be completely honest: I prefer to play pool, but I'm not very good at either, so I'll take a chance. My sister, however, was a Dutch champion bowling at some stage, so maybe, just this once, it will rub off on me!

Pwuitty (read: pretty) stones

Those who know me well, know that I LOVE stones. Cool stones, rough stones, sparkly and shiny stones, gem stones.
Anything goes when you give me a stone. Well, not anything...but yeah.
Now, missy Vegas has done her homework. One of the first things I always check out when I do some research is what kind of 'stone' is native to the country. Aaaaaaand...it's AMBER!
Well, I happen to LOVE amber, so I will definitely be checking out some pretty amber jewellery and just plain amber...
Not sure if I'll be able to buy some, but the dream is there.

Interviews

Last year's Steemfest: I got 3 interviews done. I had planned sooooo many more. I blame it on the...well....booze. Missy Vegas usually doesn't drink, so when she does...she does! So this year, I hope to catch more of ya'll to put your face and voice on tape..well, digital tape that is. When there are a lot of people, who are also very cool, and have stuff to say, that's when the journalist in me awakens and I just have to have you...on record.
So be prepared to be recorded!

I am sure I will come up with way more stuff to do, because there is lots going on, but too little time. Ah well....

See you at Steemfest!

The Crazy Communist Tour is now on my list! 😀
I'm definitely going to Auschwitz, so hopefully the CCT will fall on a different day;
I'd love to check that out with you 😊
So glad we'll get to hang out again!

Oh, I'll plan my CCT around your Auschwitz trip then. Will be great to see you and have a laugh!

Amazing!
Looking forward to it 😁

@scan0017, I saw you're going to ADE this year! I was supposed to go two years ago to meet up with a friend from Singapore. Had to cancel last moment due to travel issues... :( But ONE day I'll make it there LOL. I'm sure you'll have a GREAT time and I want to hear all about it :) Do you have any idea when you will arrive in Krakow yet? I should get there on the 6th (around 10 pm-ish) so not much of an evening left, but at least I'll be ready to go on the 7th :)

Hey hey!! 🤩
Yes, I'm super-stoked for ADE 😍
My flight lands in Krakow around 4 pm on the 7th, if the Steemfest Official hotel (where I'm staying) has a bar...
You'll know where to find me 😇😉

Well, I'll probably be there 3 p.m sharp, for registration. I'll make sure to find the bar after that :) and otherwise we'll definitely see each other at the welcome drinks that evening. Which hotel are you staying at? I booked an apartment about 10 minute walk from the Qubus Hotel. That is, if I can manage to get the damn Steemfest ticket before the price hike...(long story, things have gone horribly wrong for me here with the bank and stuff....they're holding money hostage...)

I should do one out here! Portland Oregon is rocking!

you should! Portland sounds good to me!

Yeah well it will take some planning!

Reading that you love coffee, it seems that we could meet for one ;) I remember you as a friendly person from some discussions about vaccines, so I guess you are a good person for a talk. Seems we also both will pass on Auschwitz - I can totally understand your motives not to go there. Who is the crazy american lady you will bring along?

Haha, yes, I love coffee is an understatement! So yeah: coffee sounds great at any day! And in regards to Auschwitz, I'm not even sure if I would opt in for that even if I hadn't been there. I just think it's something for an entirely different kind of trip. That time I was there, I cried my heart out and was miserable long after that, so I don't want that this time LOL. The crazy American lady I'm referring to is a woman who enthusiastically responded to my Facebook request for someone who could mind my kids while I am at Steemfest. When I heard she was American I thought she must be crazy. Turns out: she and her daughter travel for free because she works for an airline.
