Open Letter to anyone spamming garbage posts to "make their ROI"

in #roi5 years ago

While I understand that some are frustrated at the curation curve or lack thereof, there are a lot of benefits to this one too. If some of you older Steemians may remember one of the biggest reasons to the change was due to minnows feeling completely powerless at the time, you needed a much higher total SP to see your vote reach $0.01. This change helped many see that yes, even though you could technically still earn SP by curating with low Steem Power, they could see the change their vote gave in real time, something which was not possible if posts were not already voted up past a certain threshold. This was an important change for smaller accounts.

Anyway without getting too much into the curation curve, here's an offer to anyone still attempting to maximize their investment while providing nothing of value to anyone or anything on our platform.

Invest it into a non-profit bid bot or distribution bot, of course I am a bit biased here to mention @ocdb, but why not. One of the main things curation is there for is stake distribution, one of our greatest strength as a DPOS blockchain is having a very distributed currency, the price is surely helping but at the same time it could just be a few whales buying up cheap Steem. With ocdb it is proven that stake is being distributed, to over 3k willing authors right now and constantly rising.

The reason I'm mentioning ocdb is due to it not taking any cut from delegators and 10% of the profits instead going to the authors that use it daily. So yes, you do lose about 10% than if you were self-voting daily on garbage posts but at the same time you're helping stake get distributed to deserving authors which should raise the value of your investment in the long term anyway, the 10% fee for that should be worth it to you if price goes up by more because of a healthy distribution which we clearly need.

I'm not the only one thinking that ocdb is doing a good job at it, there's close to 4.2 Million SP delegated to it and growing. The reason I'm pointing at ocdb is cause I created it with the goal to always be non-profit and give a good return to delegators, delegators who maybe were instead selling their stake to bid bots which let's be honest was not doing much good for the platform, mostly just for the owners of the bots.

Having said that, ocdb will obviously not always be one of the best at returning you a high ROI, the fact that it does so right now compared to other bots accounts such as @freedom delegate to is quite simple, greed. Bot owners take a huge cut. Buying votes/attention/marketing is supposed to cost the buyer thus always returning a bigger ROI to delegators compared to ocdb that guarantees a 10% profit for the buyers, the reason it's not returning a higher ROI than ocdb today is bot owners taking big cuts for themselves because it is so tiring and such a huge daily effort to run a bot, amirite?

With Steem growing in price in the near future and more and more users joining our platform wanting to advertise and boost their posts it means that the ROI for delegators delegating to bid bots should go higher, the demand will be much higher for bid bot votes. Instead of delegating to random/anonymous bid bots that have shown their greed over the year I am hoping delegators will instead delegate to fully non-profit bid bots and although they may not exist right now it's just a matter of time until someone with the knowledge and skill creates one just to give SP holders the biggest ROI any cryptocurrency out there can and it being completely without any middleman will be even more powerful in outsiders eyes as that's something that blockchain stands for.

So until that time, delegate to @ocdb, stop the childish shitposting, the vote-trading, etc. Get that passive 90% daily return instead while at the same time aiding distribution of our currency.

This post was motivated after reading @whatsup's latest post, feel free to discuss.

PS. If you are a curator who enjoys curating instead of higher passive returns by delegating, please ignore this message and continue being awesome.

My purpose for being on Steem has fluctuated so much since I first came here. The return on investment that I get is the social capital that I gather, and the wider socialising that the Steem blockchain enables me to do is the biggest ROI.

I've recently restarted posting my photography on Instagram, and the engagement there is hollow, and bot driven follow for follow stuff. ... And there's no money at all involved there, unless you're an influencer.

My goal with Steem is not ROI, but obtaining stake - which means that as new users are onboarded, I can help give smaller authors a boost that hopefully lets others find them and give them a bigger boost as my stake grows.

I've recently been using OCDB on my own posts, and it has been ludicrous how quickly my SP has started to grow based on the votes, and the "slow burn" instead of just powering up post rewards via the SBD is starting to compound a fair bit now.

I'm at a crossroads with Steem at the moment. I feel my regular content is okay, and everynow and then I'll try to pump out something exceptional. When you've been writing stuff almost everyday (or in my case, recently; sharing gameplay videos with me rambling about what I'm doing and why) - you get into a space where, like all things, you feel like you have plateaued.

Having said that, I'm not doing posts about every drug wars fight or giving away a single steemmonster card just to get ROI on my signed blockchain transaction.

Everything I etch into this chain is a reflection of me as a human being. It has my name on it, and one day, could be my legacy.

What you've described is people tagging walls with a graffiti can - something I try to avoid on chain.

Sorry for this response being super long! :D

Another alternative: You can lease SP for 18%-19% APR. https://www.minnowbooster.net/market

Not non-profit.

True. Still better than spamming posts, though. Right?

Of course!

I think there is more to it than ROI - they are attention seekers too and trying to remain "relevant" because no one cares what they do anymore. Haejin for example is all about ROI and doesn't give a toss about attention so should really just delegate it to the highest returner and move on. @ranchorelaxo (if a different person) should take the keys back and delegate instead as he will get more of a kickback deal than haejin is likely paying. The others are still just wanting people to talk about them on the platform. A bit sad considering how much some of them could have helped the platform that has benefited them heavily over the last 3 years.

Too many people are misunderstanding share dilution and how it affects ROI. As any company, idea, etc. grows the percentage of that thing a person holds will likely shrink but the value should increase. By voting for legitimately good articles and posts the usecase for Steem will grow and with it the value per Steem. What would you rather have 300 Steem worth $1 or 100 Steem worth $50?

That is quite true sir, I kinda noticed that when I kept using other bots before which is why I stopped. Not until I was recently added into the whitelist that it took a difference.

I had delegated to @ocdb a small partake and im willing to add in more as I kept my SP growing. It maybe slow but it will do.

Thanks for the opportunity and great initiative in oroviding just compensation to the authors..

Cheers!

Great timing, as I’m just in the process of looking into who to delegate to for one of my accounts. I’ll give @ocdb a go. Just got a couple of questions though. Who does @ocdb vote for? And how do authors get on to @ocdb’s author whitelist? Thanks

It only votes on the whitelisted users who are added there via the @ocd manual curation initiative. There is a max bid and a queue system where the bid changes depending on numbers of users. The more users, the lower the votes get but the higher the distribution becomes. There is about a 10% return (often a little more) on the vote values after the curation comes out which means it delivers about a 150% vote.

Thanks for that. What is the OCD Manual Curation initiative?

https://thegoodwhales.io/queue.html

The whitelist grows through @ocd curating new users on a daily basis. :)

Thanks for this. I will definitely look into it. Just a couple more questions:

  • Do you know the current ROI for delegators?
  • What’s the process if I want to get whitelisted or help someone get whitelisted?
  • Is there a team who vets authors for the whitelist? And how are these people compensated?

Appreciate your help with this. Thanks

the ROI is basically 90% daily self-votes, could be a bit higher since you may get more curation rewards than if no one was voting on your own posts after your vote.

ocd curators look for underrewarded and quality authors and add them to a daily compilation post on @ocd where they receive all of the post rewards for finding these authors, there is no other process of getting whitelisted right now

Down with the wank bank 🏦

I am a new comer in steemit and growing up.
Hope in near future I could be a delegator.

I love what you are doing with @ocdb! It and that when I write a post that I think is worthy of a boost I no longer have mess around with the bidbots and worrying about someone else needing up the buffing.

I also noticed that you flagged someone down (I guess they were either abusing the bot or were plagiarising)... Not enough big guys take the time to be bad cop as well as good cop, so I was very impressed!

I am going over my delegations this morning, @ocdb is going to be on the list. Not huge, I'm not at big, but I really feel that the power is parked in the right place!

I need to care about roi more...I wasn’t active for 7 months and didn’t even delegate mine out to a bot for profit.

Lazy but also proof I really don’t care about milking the system.

Now go upvote me darnit I need to get some return! Lol guess I should delegate to ocdb you all have been doing some good work for a long while now.
