Easing back in

I ran again today for the first time since my parkrun debut. Not because of anything that happened on the parkrun, but because I had a procedure under general anaesthetic last Monday and was advised to leave it a week before lacing up my running shoes again.

I had a moment of resistance when Laura prodded me into consciousness at 7.15am and I was a bit apprehensive even after warming up, it's really tricky to know whether you're up to it or not. Still I had my phone with me so in the direst straits I could have called an air ambulance or something, I suppose. I decided I'd just try going to the Broadford bridge and back which is just under 2 miles and if I had to stop early and walk home then I would.

So I set off vigilantly aware for any signs of some part of my body not working, but none came! It all works and I made it there and back again in twenty minutes. On Thursday I'll stretch a bit how long I run for. My main worry was that I would somehow lose pace, I felt at times like I was crawling along like an old puffer, but turns out the training I did before kept me going. Nine days without a run felt like a lifetime, but actually it's not that long.

Not sure whether I'll push myself to the full 5k again on Saturday, we'll see how it goes, but I'll be out again on Thursday to keep in the routine.

Good to get back out - I find 2 days a week is enough to keep things ticking over... more than 4 days off it's an effort!

This time of year though it's easy... November is when it's really tough to head out!

yeah it was a bit chilly for the first time this morning, with heavy dew and mist rolling off the river, a portent of things to come!

I've just switched my run time to 9.00 rather than 7.30 to reflect that.

Love early a.m. runs - but only from May up until around this time of year.

Having said that tomo looks good for an early one.

Of course you've got Box Hill to 'enjoy' near you, that's fun to run up and down!

Ha! Yes, earlier in the summer I was curious to see a swarm of runners coming down our road and heading over the river. It turned out they were on a 100 mile run of the North Down's Way (including that rather hilly bit in the middle!) from Farnham to Ashford - nuts, imho!

Yes. Bunch of nutters!

Good for you for starting back up and getting yourself to run again. Even if you don't choose to do the 5k on Saturday, you picked back up a healthy routine!

Fingers crossed for no air ambulances in the near future haha!

No, no first aid required today either, it's amazing (to me) how quickly it comes back
