As a disclaimer, this product was NOT provided to me by Huami for a review on their behalf. The product was purchased by myself, and all opinions provided are my own. Please note that no runners were harmed in the process of performing this review.

If you've read my previous review, you might think I am a little difficult to please when it comes to sports watches, but it couldn't be further from the truth. And I think this is reflected in this review on the Amazfit Stratos Multi Sports Watch. I usually review something like this after the first month, but wanted to have an extra month before I gave my final verdict as I wanted to make sure I gave it all I could before posting.

My first impression of the watch was that this thing looked beautiful. And I am not usually the type of person to simply look at something, but when I first got my new Stratos, I found myself simply looking at it. Although the default watch band is a rubber watch band, the face is gorilla glass on a carbon fiber casing. When you pick up the watch, it doesn't feel cheap either, it fells like you have spent a lot more on this watch than what it costs.

The display is a low-power color display which is a little difficult to see at first, but it won't take you longer than one or two days to get used to it. The screen can also be back lit if you're having trouble seeing it. The watch comes with Gorilla glass as standard, which means knocks and hits will not be reflected on your screen. The touch screen is also pretty responsive with all commands also being activated by the buttons as well.

Getting out and using the watch during training is also pretty good. As a sports watch it does a great job. The GPS is accurate and so is the optical heart rate attached to the watch. There are quite a few sports modes to choose from with Huami continuously developing and providing more. The layout on the screen is clear with most of the functionality being able to be configured from the watch itself. The watch is also comfortable and does not feel heavy or bulky.

As a smart watch, it needs to be said that it does not have full smart watch capability, as it can only receive messages and notifications and not answer them. Apps on the watch are limited to what Huami provide and this is limited, but the default applications provide a lot of functionality, including Bluetooth music that you can store on the watch, changing the watch face to suit your mood, weather and health tracking.

Battery life is also pretty good. I prefer to keep the Bluetooth disconnected for most of the day, but even with the amount of training I'm doing(8 - 10 hours per week), I am still only charging this watch every 4 to 5 days. I also ran a marathon recently and it only used 15% of the battery for 3 and a half hours...I am not sure if it will last the suggested 35 hour of GPS and Heart rate, but it does look pretty promising that it could last close to 20 hours.

The Amazfit Watch app is clear and clean giving you all the information you need

You connect to your smart phone through the Amazfit Watch App, which is pretty modern and has a clean and clear interface. The application is easy to use and give you a large amount of information although I would really like to be able to see my data on a full web page though. Some of the sports are a little inaccurate, like the pools swimming function, as it is missing strokes especially when you are sprinting. If you like Strava integration, it will only sync GPS data to your Strava account, so this could be something that would put you off, but is no different to FitBit or some other sports watche brands.

The Good Points

  • The watch looks really nice and is hard wearing
  • The interface is easy to use and the display is clear
  • Battery life is good, lasting almost 5 days
  • GPS and Heart rate are accurate
  • Lots of sport profiles set up by default
  • Good value for money
  • Great Smartphone App

The Bad Points

  • No dedicated website for configuring watch or displaying data
  • The pool swimming functionality can be a little unaccurate
  • Limited with the number of apps available
  • Only GPS data will transfer to Strava
  • You need to have the watch unlocked to customise it further
  • Not full smart watch functionality

I haven't had much success with smart watches and fitness trackers with most of them only last 12 months, so I am not going to get too excited with the Amazfit Stratos. If you go to their facebook page, you'll constantly have people logging problems and issues, but the company Huami shipped over 18 million products in 2017, so this could be expected from the scale. The watch is pretty impressive though, I purchased my watch from Ali Express for just over $250 AU, it is a bargen compared to watches of similar prices. I would say this watch is easily better than watches almost twice the price, like the FitBit Ionic or Garmin Forerunner 235.

My latest post for the @runningproject is a descussion on Stride Rate for runners, so feel free to look it up below:

I'm sorry what, have you actually read the review? The review is actually very positive in its sentiment including the section where I have listed all of the good points.
Please explain further what you are advising?

Indeed it is - the negative sentiment of 0.038 is much much lower than the positive sentiment of 0.191, which means the bot has picked up on the fact that your article is positive overall. I'm iterating on this bot right now, so I can't make any recommendations with numbers to back them up. This bot currently can only give you insight into whether your article has more positive words or negative words in it.

I've recently iterated on the bot to normalize the sentiment rating, so that its a little more clear whether your post is considered positive overall or negative. I also updated the selection process - only exceptionally positive or negative articles are posted on.

Is there a way I can make sure it never comes up on my posts again? It provides no value to me.

I have tweaked the code, you will never get a comment from this bot again. Good luck!
