Review: Papar Rail Run 5.0 2019

Hi guys, I participated in the event today organized by Event 4 U in Papar district 45km away from Kota kinabalu. I registered the Men Open Half Marathon (21km) category with my 2 running buddy. The registration fees was Rm80 (USD 20) with 2 tee shirts, finisher medal and some goodies.

The event started at 5am and we moved from Kota Kinabalu at 3am and arrvied at 4am. The event started 20 minutes late from scheduled due to some technical errors. This was a small event so there was no running chip at the back of the bib.

The event flagged of at 5.20am and it was still dawn with a cooling weather at 25 degree celsius. The race started off running on the main highway and eventually going through the village. The scenery was awesome as there we only few cars and surrounded by village cottage and tropical jungle.

At 14km, we ran through the beach and headibg back to the finishing line. There were alot of cow dungs on the road due to the dairy farm was nearby, so we need to run in zig zag movement for roughly 1km.

The tetrain was perfect as there were no hills, which I had my personal best time recorded from my Garmin at 2 hours 27 min and 30 seconds, beating my previous record of 2 hours 35 minutes. I reached the finishing line at around 8am and collected my finisher tee and medal. At the finishing line, there many local Star runners gatheted for photo session.

Overall I considered this was a successful event eventhough there were some hiccups such as starting late and less water station. I will definitely be joining the event again next year. Cheers.
