I didn't know about Ebates until few weeks ago. Some people have been using it for years. You get all the benefits that you have with these stores like points, discounts, etc, and on top of that, get refund from Ebates for the offer they tag on the site. eg for Macy's, they have 10% Cash back deal today. All your purchase from Macy's online will be refunded with 10% cash. But one important thing to remember- you need to use the same credit card you linked in Ebates in order to be eligible for the refund.

As to in store shopping, you can find the store info from Ebates by search, if it's eligible, pls make sure to click link offer before check out to be eligible for the refund from Ebates. Also make sure that you use the same credit card to pay.
