Derby County vs Wigan Athletic
The UEFA Champions League is the major event today but if you are following my picks for some time you should know why I'm staying away from it. Today, I'll be placing just one bet in the English Championship and I'll be backing the underdog. Here's why.
Derby County is a wounded animal. Too many games played and too many injuries collected have cost them the points in the recent games. In their last game they've got humiliated by Aston Villa and today they will look to get back to the winning ways and go for the top six places (just 3 points out).
While I do think they're the favorites today, I'll still be backing the underdogs - Wigan Athletic. While their results don't reflect their fighting spirit and the effort they're investing in each and every game, tonight that may change. I'm kinda betting on it. They've got an excellent historical record playing in Derby. The last five they went W3L2 there.
The only worrying thing is that Wigan is fighting with Ipswich about who'll be the worst away team in the Championship this season. This season they've collected just 6 points out of the 16 games played. Yet, here I am backing them against a much better side.
Both sides need the points tonight, but for different reasons. Derby to qualify for the Play Offs, Wigan to avoid the relegation. With so much pressure on Derby to perform tonight, they may break under it and the visitors can take advantage of it and return home as heroes.
My Bet: Wigan Athletic +0 @3.22 (betfair)

Derby are on a dreadful run, this looks a solid bet to me!
We'll know soon enough.
The odds on my bet are @3.12 now, but Derby + 0 is @1.45 favorite.
