SBD below 1$, dont use 50/50 payouts!steemCreated with Sketch.

in #sbd5 years ago

Currently a SBD is trading at 0.82$, well below the promised 1$. I have talked about this is some detail in my recent posts.
Currently the peg is secured at 0.812$ with market prices of 0.82$. This means that buying and converting is not profitable at the moment, but the traded price is not far off. Overall the markets for SBD are quite rational.

Note that the prices seen on the internal market and many steem-related websites are denoted in SBD. This is great when the peg is working, but when it is broken a SBD is no longer a dollar and one needs to be careful what one is comparing.
For example on steemd.com the steemprice is listed as 0.41$ but on coinmarketcap.com it is just 0.334$. The reason is simply that the former is in SBD and not actual $. But the price on steemd.com is actually still very useful. It is the price used by the chain to compute sbd conversions (from 3.5 days in the past!). As a rule of thumb, any buy of SBD cheaper that this ratio (steem price above 0.41$!) on the internal market (that also runs in SBD) means that you should make steem by conversions and otherwise it is not profitable to convert.

For more details, taking into account the current price of steem (in actual dollar) and price fluctuations have a look at this chart updated at the moment of this post.
download (42).png
The lower axis is the price of steem in $ and the upper one the minimum guaranteed value of SBD via conversions also in $. The black line shows the current price. The red dashed line the restarting of printing SBD by the chain at full speed. Reduced printing of SBD starts at the kink. The orange line is the real peg taking into account the risk of price fluctuations during the conversion period.

Dont use 50/50 payouts anymore!

Looking at this plot makes the problems we are facing quite clear. Right now no more SBD is printed, but once the price rises to about 0.4$ levels, the printing of SBD restarts. But at that time, a SBD is still not worth 1$!. Remember back when SBD was 6$ or more. Then 50/50 payouts were great because 1$ of steem was replaced by 6$ of SBD since the chain always values a SBD at 1$. But now we will see a time where SBD will hang around 95 cent and even though is is just a little, people using 50/50 payouts will loose some value.

So simply switch to 100% steem to claim your full value. Then simply power down a bit once a while when needed. It is by the way no problem to avoid the 13 week time. Just power down 13x the steem you want and cancel the powerdown after one week.

So I should start using the 100% option?

I would recommend it. Otherwise you will lose somewhere between 1 and 2% of your payouts. Not a lot but still something. However be sure to go back to 50/50 should SBD be above 1$.

The merkle root of the block in which this post will appear determines the winner.

The block in which the above post is included has a merkle root of da1e2576fc15ef8345ccf8ed1a98ddf0c2d80453.
To find the winner we:

  1. Convert the merkle root into base 10:
    da1e2576fc15ef8345ccf8ed1a98ddf0c2d80453 = 1245232274038531057845150906205999365091361293395.
  2. Compute the residual after dividing by the number of tickets: 1245232274038531057845150906205999365091361293395 mod 972 = 831.
  3. This is the winning ticket, held by @dhimmel.

Congratulations!

Cool what do I win... or is this just a proof of concept? What determines who has tickets?
