The Far Distant Land --- Devotional
Amy Carmichael (1867–1951) is famous for her good work of saving female orphans in India and granting them a new life. In the middle of the tiring work, there were periods she referred to as the “moments of vision.” In Gold by Moonlight, she penned down, “In the midst of a crowded day we are given almost a glimpse of ‘the land of far distances,’ and we stand still, arrested on the road."

In the bible, prophet Isaiah spoke of a season when the rebellious people of God would turn back to Him. “Your eyes will see the king in his beauty and view a land that stretches afar” (Isaiah 33:17). To look at this “land of far distances” is to be raised above the situations of the immediate present and to obtain a long lasting perspective. In times of difficulty, the Lord makes it possible for us to see our lives from His point of view and repossess hope. “For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us” (Verse 22)

Each and everyday, we can decide to look down in diappointment or raise and fix our eyes to “the land of far distances,” to the Jesus Christ,our Lord, who is “our Mighty One” (Verse 21).
Amy Carmichael spent over fifty years in the country India helping the needy young women. How was she able to do this? The answer is simple! She fixed her eyes on the Lord and laid her life in His care. And so can we.

When we have our hearts set on pleasing God, we stop at nothing to show him our love. God blesses us when we do that.
