MATURITY – A Criterion to Qualify for Divine Inheritance

in #sc-n5 years ago

Beginning a walk with God is good, but sustaining the walk is better. To sustain our walk with God, God places a demand on our growth. From being a new born Christian, it is God’s desire that we graduate from being milked to receiving the solid food of God’s word. However, this can only be undertaken by matured Christians.

Just like we would love to see our children and younger siblings grow into maturity, we ourselves after being born again, should seek to grow in knowledge, character and virtue to reach maturity.

Why Maturity

The maturity of the Christian is important as it is one of the criteria for our qualification to receive God’s inheritances. As a new born believer, there are certain aspects and blessings of God that we can access, however, there are limits that can only be crossed after we’ve reached maturity.

Galatians 4: 1 - 7

Now I say, that the heir, as long as he is a child, differeth nothing from a servant, though he be lord of all; But is under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father.
Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law.
To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

From the above scriptures, God equates a child to a servant, even when he is an heir. This is because, as a child, such cannot undertake certain responsibilities; such is cared for and rarely knows what is good for himself.

Yet, God amplifies the roles of teachers who are to train the child as he approaches maturity. This implies that we cannot actually grow if we fail to be taught and consciously learn in the process.

Maturity is more than length of days and age, maturity has more to do with the ability to learn practice what is learnt in thinking, speaking and acting right. It also involves the ability to take responsibilities and give right judgment.

We must note here that a believer who remains a child is subject to bondage of the world. As such, God is calling us to SONSHIP. A son is that believer that has undergone the father’s training and is ready to imbibe them. A son is the believer who is ready to settle in the father’s crucible of pruning and discipline.

There is nothing to struggle about, the father appoints a time after which the child qualifies into sonship and eventually becomes a true heir of the inheritance. Trying to get hold of the inheritances before such time could be a disaster.

Final Thoughts

There are inheritances that are accessible to us through Christ if we grow from sucklings to sons. Becoming a son and a true heir to the inheritances require that we sit and learn. May we not be a hurry, but be willing to be moulded by our teachers to qualify for divine inheritances – Amen.

A Call to Action

In Romans 10: 9 -10, the scripture points to action that can be taken to unravel this mystery and enjoy this newness of life.

  • By believing in our heart that God raised Jesus Christ from death makes us right with God;
  • By only confessing Jesus as our Lord saves you from all our sins.

If you've not yet believed that God raised Jesus from the dead and you've not yet confesses Him as your Lord, you can do it NOW!

God bless you.
