OUR LAWYER

"He shall see the fruit of the affliction of his soul, and he shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many, and bear their iniquities.
Therefore, I will give him a part with the great ones, and with the strong ones he will divide the spoils; because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with sinners, having borne the sin of many, and prayed for transgressors. "
Isaiah 53: 11-12

"And he commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that he is the one whom God has appointed Judge of the living and the dead."
Acts 10:42

The previous passages speak of the double character or ministry that Jesus Christ exercises.

First, when we read Isaiah, we see that the prophet speaks and describes the Messiah as someone who lives interceding for sinners. "By his knowledge He will justify my servant to many."

When we present Jesus, we usually do it this way: as an intercessor mediator; but it is also necessary that you and I have clear that one day we will be before this mediator; but no longer as a mediator, nor intercessor, but we are going to be before his presence and He is going to present himself as a just judge who will judge the living and the dead.

Let's see in the Word these two characters of Jesus as Mediator and as Judge.

1st Tim. 2: 5 makes a very Jewish statement to those who doubted this new doctrine, appealing to the one God. The Jew was monotheistic.

"Because there is only one God," proclaims that there is only one God, "... and there is a single mediator between God and men, Jesus Christ, man" (there is no other, there is no other).

The principle that we believe in as a mediator, is that God has put a single mediator between God and men and is Jesus Christ, there is no way to get to God, there is no favor that we do not receive only through Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 8: 6 "But now so much better is his ministry, as he is the mediator of a better covenant, established on better promises."

Jesus is the mediator of a better covenant, speaking of the covenant that God made for man to receive forgiveness of sins. God directly institutes a mediator sending his Son, that's why he says a better covenant.

Before the high priest or the priests were the mediators between God and man and there were many because one died and a new one arose.

This covenant is better because it passed through death, is non-transferable, put an intermediary, a reconciliator or intercessor. We believers are glad to know that we have a mediator before God.

1st John 2: 1

"My little children, these things I write to you so that you do not sin and if anyone has sinned, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Just One."

The word used by John is the same as Jesus used to describe the Holy Spirit consolation Parakletos (the lawyer who stands aside to intercede for us) Jesus comes before the Father for us so that when you and I have committed a sin Let us go through Jesus so that we may be reconciled with God.

When we speak to people, we tell them that Jesus has a lawyer to intercede for their sins.

Hebrews 7:25 "Living always to intercede for them."

Jesus is at this moment at the side of the Father interceding for someone. Yesterday, today and tomorrow, He will be interceding for you before God, to be presented white and without blemish. Jesus is living to intercede for us.

What joy, peace, happiness should bring to our lives to know that Jesus is always interceding for us. Jesus asks the Father to forgive us, for his shed blood, so that we present ourselves before Him without blemish. When you get angry, when you sin, Jesus is interceding.

He interceded until the last moment of his life, even on the cross itself.

"And Jesus said: Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing, and they divided their clothes among themselves, casting lots." Luke 23:34

Even in the most difficult moment, Jesus does not forget his ministry as lawyer, mediator, intercessor. He did it on the same cross, with more reason now that he is before the Father, intercede for us. What a blessing we have, Jesus prayed on the cross for us.

Jesus declared that God has not sent his Son to condemn this world, but for the world to be saved by Him ... In what way? He is always interceding for us. He is always watching us.

The problem arises when we only like to know that we have a mediator, and even more to know that he is the Son of God; but the Lord will not be all eternity interceding, the time will come when he will come as a judge, he will no longer come to plead, he will no longer intercede for forgiveness for us. The time will come when we will no longer sin, when we are transformed, we will live apart from sin.

People need to know that there is a lawyer; but also that there is a judge who will judge us with justice, that the time will come when he will also be Judge of the living and the dead. When we see the Lord Jesus sitting on his throne, he will no longer be a mediator, but will be to judge.

Acts 17: 30-31 "Judge the world with righteousness, through that man who raised from the dead."

God ignores the ignorance of men and puts a mediator, but also will put it as a judge to judge the world with justice. We have to be fully aware of this.

In 2nd. Corinthians 5:10 Paul says "For it is necessary that we all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what he has done while we are in the body, whether it be good or bad."

We are going to see 2 things:

It is necessary to appear before the tribunal of Christ. No being can escape being in the judgment of God. When he judges us, he will judge us by what we did while we were in this body.

The Lord to save us, did not take our sins into account, if you understand this idea well, you will understand salvation by grace.

When we are in God's judgment, if we have walked in obedience, you and I should not have any fear the day we present ourselves before Him, because the day we met the Lord, we understood that God in Christ was taking away our sins and everything. the bad that we have done, God erased it.

God will judge us according to our life in Christ, which is a life in good works, that is our call in Christ. If some believer, misinterpreting the concept of saving grace, believes that he can walk in this world cursing, stealing, idolizing, getting drunk, in vices, and believes that when he comes to the Judgment before God he will meet a lawyer, he is wrong, There will be no lawyer, you will meet a Christ as a Just Judge and when this moment comes, God will judge us according to what we did, whether it is good or bad. If we do not strive for the good, we will have problems, if we continue to conquer the bad, "the peccadilloes" that we keep dragging the world, He will judge us by what we did. It is necessary to be judged so that the justice of God is manifested. God is known as just when he saves the sinner and leads him to eternal life or when he condemns him to hell for loving the darkness more and continuing to sin. In both ways it is known as just "because the wages of sin is death" and it is just that the one who sinned, go to hell, as if he who turned away from evil, enter into the presence of God eternally.
